Georgian antique silver parcel gilt silver pocket snuff box of oval rectangular shape with all-over reeded design, the thumb piece with relief scrolling flowers design, gilded interior, by Ledsam & Vale, Birmingham 1820, 9cm long, 65g.The snuff box has multiple dings to both ends and main body.
Georgian antique parcel gilt silver snuff box of oval cushion form with all over engine turned decoration, by John Linnit & William Atkinson, London 1811, 7cm long, 60g. The snuff box appears to have been gilded originally but gilding has worn from outer although it is still visible in deep recesses. There is a ding to one end. There are light surface scratches throughout.

The cartouche and inscription is rubbed to the lid. The box is tarnished in areas and the gilded interior appears faded.

Royal Naval Reserve Decoration, silver and silver-gilt, hallmarks for London 1916, unnamed as issued; together with a circular silver Snuff Box, the lid engraved ‘Capt. E. J. Minster from W. E. J. Sept. 1901’, good very fine £100-£140 --- Edward James Minister was born at Cardigan, South Wales, in 1870. He qualified for the Merchant Marine on 28 August 1890 and appears on the Navy List that and every subsequent year until 1939. He joined the Royal Naval Reserve as a Sub-Lieutenant on 5 April 1897 and was promoted Lieutenant on 20 December 1898 and Lieutenant-Commander on 20 December 1906. He was awarded the Royal Naval Reserve Decoration in 1915. He travelled very widely during his career, particularly to the West Indies. He died in autumn 1939. Sold with a group photograph of the officers S.M.S. Nürnberg, annotated as being taken at Zanzibar, and thus dated to March 1910 when the ship was on its way from Germany to join the German East Asia Fleet. The Nürnberg was sunk at the Battle of the Falkland Islands on 8 December 1914, all but seven of her crew of 322 being lost.
