A French mother of pearl and gold on silver oval snuff box, Paris small guarantee mark for 1819-1838, with the Double mark in a rectangular punch, the cover inset with a miniature still life of a basket of flowers, within a foliate chevron and blue enamel border, the mother of pearl plain, the cover mount with flower heads and stylised leaves, 6cm (2 3/8in) wide
Six 19th century tortoiseshell boxes, comprising: two rectangular tobacco boxes, the smaller with a horn base, 10cm (4in) and 9.5cm (3 3/4in) long; a vesta case, inset with a coloured print of a windmill and boat, 6cm (2 3/8in) high; a smaller case similar, 5cm (2in) high; a mother of pearl inset rectangular snuff box, 6.3cm (2 1/2in) long; a small horn base oblong snuff box, 4.7cm (1 7/8in) long; and a Continental wood and metal inlaid tobacco box, 9cm (3 1/2in) long (7). From the collection of Laurence W. Hodson (1863-1933) and descendants, thence by descent.
A Yellow Metal Snuff or Comfit Box, in late 18th century style, oval section, the lid sides and base engine turned with a repeat concentric grid of circular motifs with chevron border to the lid, the plain interior stamped GB beneath a crown (and also to the underside of the lid), 3.9cm wide Very slight dents around the basal rim. A circular horn Snuff Box with a pressed decoration of a hunting scene and inscribed "Tally-Ho" and with the makers mark "Wilson", the base of the box decorated with pressed leaves etc. 3 1/4" (8cms) diameter. N.B. a snuff box maker with the name Wilson is recorded in Sheffield, circa 1723-1796.

A 19th century treen ovoid snuff box on turned stand, height 9cm, and a deer's hoof snuff box with brass hinged lid. Condition Report: lot 97 - the treen table snuff has a 4cm crack to its lid together with blemishes and a water stain type mark. The hoof box brass mount and lid is misshapen and buckled.
