A George III silver and coconut shell snuff box, no apparent maker's mark, London 1798, circular form, the hinged cover engraved with a scene of the Scarborough Cliff Bridge with a beach scene behind with ships, and inscribed 'GEORGE VICKERS Grove House Nr. SHEFFIELD LENGTH 344FT. HEIGHT 67FT. SCARBOROUGH CLIFF BRIDGE. B. 14ft', also engraved with a square and compass and a pair of compasses, possibly for a Masonic connection, the underside of the box formed by a carved coconut shell with a face with engraved teeth, diameter 7.8cm. Provenance: purchased from Christie's New York, Import Silver, Objects of Vertu and Russian Works of Art, 21 October 2003, lot 184. The Cliff Bridge, in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England spans the valley from St Nicholas Cliff to The Spa, it was completed in 1827. it was built to give easier access to the spa. The bridge has four segmental braced iron arches on plain tapering stone piers with stone abutments, and it is a rare example of a multiple-span cast iron bridge.

The bottom with scattered scratching. The right end panel with three conjoined shallow chips measuring approximately 1.2cm x 2mm. Catch and hinge work well. Gilt detail to exterior very slightly rubbed. Interior gilding intact but with some light scattered scratching.

Chester 1910, with canted corners, the lid with white and blue guilloche enamel and decorated with rose sprays within gilt border, 2.5ins x 1.75ins x .625ins, gross weight 2.1ozs Condition - The enamel to top appears to be in good condition with no obvious damage/loss/restoration. There is however some very light, scattered scratching to the enamel. The upper edge of the lid shows some very small nicks. There are a few similar scattered nicks to the lower edge of the box, as well as some scattered scratching/ 'dings', to the side and base. Catch works well, as does the hinge. Gilt detail to interior is intact.

Small area of enamel loss to the lower right corner. Some light scattered scratching to lid. Miniscule loss/chip to enamel to lower right corner. External gilding with wear. A few very small scattered dents to the base. Hinge works well. Interior gilding intact.

Very slight shallow dent to front edge at right corner. At this point the soldered joint attaching the right end to the body has failed and there is now an exposed join measuring approximately 1.2cm. Some very light scattered scratching all over.

London 1929 and scratch No. 545286 the whole with green guilloche enamel, the two ends with royal blue guilloche enamel and with seed pearl applied to lid, 3.25ins x 2.375ins x .5inch, gross weight 3.3ozs Condition - A small very shallow chip to enamel at centre of the top, centred on the pearl. A few light scattered scratches to top and a few to underside of base. Gilding to exterior with some wear. The catch and hinge work well. Interior of gilding is intact.

The interior lid shows two drilled single holes measuring just under 1mm each, both to right and left. The reason for these holes cannot be determined.The burgundy leather cloth covered fitted case is in good condition.
