In 1924 he transferred to the Royal Indian Army Service Corps, he became a Major in Crasi 9th Highand Division in April 1940 advancing to Lieutenant Colonel in October 1941, he held various posts throughout 1940/50s before taking a position in Northern Ireland in 1961.

Enamelling is slightly rubbed / flaking to areas of the patchwork. A Russian silver and cloisonné / champlevé enamel snuff box, indistinct 84 standard mark, rectangular form with rounded corners, the hinged cover and base with stylised flowers and foliate scrolls in red, mauve, apple-green and three shades of blue, the centre oval with turquoise ground, the edges with repeating floral design on rich blue ground, 3¼in. (8.3cm.) long, gross weight 3.5 tr.oz. * Good condition, no enamel loss found, strong hinge, rubbed marks.

An early Victorian novelty Irish souvenir buffalo horn snuff box, fashioned as a wild boar, with fine detail, bone tusks, red bead eyes, protruding ears (that appear to be carved not applied) and carved snout, the top of box with hinged lid opening to reveal storage, the underside marked, 'KILLARNEY LAKES', the National Park in County Kerry, Ireland', 4 ½in. (11.5cm.) long. * Condition: In good condition, with tiny chips to rear upper plate and main body edge. Flat-head screws holding backplate cover with interior wood block - this is not a repair, it is from the original construction.

An Indian or Persian silver gilt and jewelled snuff box, 19th century, impressed marks to base and cover, in the form of a miniature casket, the lid with applied filigree panel set with a central emerald, pink topaz and sapphires, the foliate border with cabochon sapphire thumbpiece, the outset base with foliate decoration on a matted ground, 2½ x 1 7/8in. (6.3 x 4.75cm.), 7/8in. (2.25cm.) high. * Some wear to gilt to underside and edges. Small area of wear to rubover mount to one sapphire. Slight wear to facets on emerald. Lid opens and closes securely. Otherwise good overall, with no other faults.

One of the porcelain bottles (decorated in black & dark pink with birds in a prunus tree) has a chip to rim. No other faults.

The tesserae in relatively good order with no obvious damages or losses. Tarnishing to the metal mounts. Wear and rubbing to the box commensurate with use and age.

The card are with tarnished silver diamond shaped engraved tablet to the centre, loose hinge and loose piece of veneer. Octagonal thimble case with a few scuffs including a small chip to the edge of the lid.

2x Large Whales Teeth with Engraved Scrimshaw Scenes, the first shows a large naval vessel on voyage with the reverse a maiden in traditional dress, lower section with plated bottom fitting making the tooth into a snuff box. The other shows a rowing boat being destroyed by a large whale with sailing ship in the back ground, dedication to the reverse “Acept dear girl this tooth from me. Carved by humble hand. I took it from a whales jaw A thousand miles from land – Remember the giver”. Scrimshaw not old, aged for effect.
