A William IV silver 'castle-top' snuff box, Newstead Abbey, by Taylor and Perry, Birmingham 1835, rounded rectangular form, the hinged cover with a scene of the Abbey, engine-turned sides and base, in a fitted case, length 8.2cm, approx. weight 3.3oz. A Victorian Scottish 'Castle-top' snuff box, Abbotsford House, by Alexander Graham Wighton, Edinburgh 1839, cartouche form, the hinged cover with a scene of the house within a landscape setting with fishermen in the foreground, and with a scroll border, the sides with chased foliate scroll decoration, gilded interior, the inside of the cover inscribed 'Dr. William Bruce, from a sincere friend in grateful remembrance of his unremitting attention during a long and dangerous illness Smyrna, May 1840', in a fitted case, length 8.5ccm, approx. weight 4.3oz. It is likely that this box was exhibited by Wighton at the 1851 Great Exhibition, as was known as the Waverley snuff box. Abbotsford House was the home of the Scottish novelist Sir Walter Scott. A George III silver snuff box, by Frederick Hentsche, London 1819, oblong oval section, with foliate scroll decoration, the hinged cover with a shell thumb-piece and with a glazed white portrait of William Shakespeare in profile, in a gold frame, the underside with initials, length 8.5cm, approx. weight 3.8oz. A mid 18th century Irish silver snuff box, maker's mark only, that of Benjamin Stokes, Dublin circa 1750, tear form, the hinged cover engraved with an armorial within Rococo mantling, the underside of the base engraved 'Mary Hooker Dole', length 8.3cm, approx. weight 2.5oz. A George II silver table snuff box, by Gundry Roode, London 1731, modelled as a book, the ribbed spine engraved with formal motifs, the hinged cover with a later armorial within a Rococo cartouche, the reverse side with a crest, length 11.4cm, approx. weight 7.9oz. The later arms are those of Sebright, probably for Edward Amherst Sebright, third son of Sir John Sebright, 6th Bt.of Beechwood. During the Peninsular War he commanded 2/1st Foot Guards from March 10- April 1811. Provenance: The Lion Collection, entry number 134. An early 18th century silver snuff box, unmarked circa 1720, oval form, the hinged cover set with an oval silver-gilt medallion of Charles I, gilded interior, the underside with a later presentation inscription ' To Ernest Gillick with thanks for designing the beautiful Chairman's Cup for the Arts Club, London from William Orpen, 1929' length 7.4cm, approx. weight 1.6oz. Ernest Gillick RA (1874-1951) was the British sculptor and Sir William Orpen KBE, RA, RHA (1878-1931) was the Irish artist.
An Austrian silver, enamel and mother-of-pearl snuff box, maker's mark of S.G, Vienna, circa 1900, oval form, the hinged cover set with a mother-of-pearl panel and applied with an enamelled hunter kneeling before a stag, with a cross in its antlers, and with a dog by his side, the sides and base with engraved foliate scroll decoration, length 9.2cm.
A 19th century Colonial silver snuff box, the base and cover marked DS twice, and S&S, (overstriking another), the lip of the cover also marked, possibly Cape, rectangular form, the hinged cover engraved 'From Jonathan Hall to William Hall', with the crest of a bugle and the motto 'firmoir quo paratior', length 7.2cm, approx. weight 3.3oz.

Kovalskiy, Moscow 1852 rectangular form, the cover, sides and base with town scenes, within foliate borders, gilded interior, length with foliate scroll niello decoration, with a vacant cartouche, length 10cm, approx. weight 5.7oz.
A large silver-gilt engraved 'castle-top' table snuff box, by John Linnit, London 1839, shaped rectangular cushion form, the hinged cover with a heavy foliate scroll border and engraved with a view of the original Licensed Victuallers' School in Kennington, London, foliate scroll sides on a matted background, the underside of the base engraved with the names of the Trustees and Committee men, length 13.5cm, approx. weight 16.3oz. Licensed Victuallers' School was founded in 1803 by the Society of Licensed Victuallers. The School was originally in Kennington, and then moved to Slough in 1922 and then to Ascot in 1989.
