A rare WWI First World War interest silver plate tobacco / snuff box, with enamel badge to top ' In Honour Of Bradford Pals - 16 Ser. Bn. W.Y. Regiment ' (16th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment). Oval shaped, with a hinged lid. Measures approx; 9cm long. On 1st July 1916 the Bradford Pals (16/18 West Yorkshire Regiment) were at the heart of the assault on the Somme. Drawn from the mill city of Bradford they were tasked with taking objectives in and around the fortified village of Serre. The West Yorkshire Regiment suffered the highest casualty rates of any sent into battle on the first day of the Somme.

An unusual Boer War P.O.W. shoe form snuff box, in cedar wood with carved details, rounded toe, replacement sliding lid, the sole with carved inscription 'Bermuda POW', 9cms. †Bermuda was one of four locations used for Boer War prisoners. In total five islands were used, recieving in the region of 5000 men between June 1901 and January 1902. Each camp had an 'Industrial Association' which assigned maintenance duties but also encouraged the prisoners to participate in cedar crafts.
