INDIAN MUTINY INTEREST, A GEORGE IV SILVER TABLE SNUFF BOX LATER PRESENTED AS A FREEDOM BOX FOR THE CITY OF HAMILTON, SCOTLAND, with all-over engine turning, the hinged cover with an applied border chased in high relief with roses, thistles, shamrocks and leaves with a floral chased thumb-piece and with a central panel inscribed 'The Freedom of the Burgh of Hamilton to Lieu't Col. C.McIntyre, 78th Highlanders', the interior gilt and with a further inscription 'Presented with The Freedom of the Burgh of Hamilton to Lieu't. Col. Colin Campbell McIntyre C.B. of the 78th Highlanders in honour of the Distinguished Services of Himself and the other Officers and Men of that Gallant Regiment during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 Hamilton, 22nd June 1860', and engraved in the top corners 'Cawnpore' and 'Lucknow', mark of John Linnit, London 1824, 11cm wide, 8cm deep, 4cm high overall (4 ¼ in x 3 ¼ in x 1 ½ in), 316g (10 oz)
AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH VARICOLOURED GOLD AND ENAMEL RECTANGULAR TABLE SNUFF BOX BY CASIEZ & COULEAUX the hinged cover with a polychrome enamelled panel depicting a stag hunt in a mountain landscape, within a blue enamelled single-line frame and a bloomed-gold border of flowers, leaves and scrolls on a matt ground, the slightly concave sides similarly decorated, the engine turned base with a similar border, lozenge-shaped makers mark, 9cm wide, 6.5cm deep, 2.25cm high (approx. 3 ½ in x 2 ½ in x 1 in), 144g gross (a little over 4 ½ oz)

A GEORGE I MOUNTED TORTOISESHELL SNUFF BOX of rectangular outline with a stand-away hinge & a reeded border, the cover inset with a later medal depicting a classical portrait bust of Sir Joshua Reynolds, the box unmarked, c.1720; 3.2" (8 cms) long *The medal by John Kirk is dated 1773, the year Reynolds was elected Mayor of Plymouth, the reverse depicting the personification of Art, at an easel, painting a portrait within the legend "President of the Royal Academy".
