Three Georgian era boxes, to include: a navette shaped wooden snuff box with white metal mounts (assessed to be silver), with hinged lid.A tortoiseshell box with brass mounts and gilt painted interior, and a papier-mâché example with painted scene to the lid and segmented interior.Condition: The navette shaped snuff box is in good condition with minor surface wear, the tortoiseshell example has age related cracking in multiple areas, but remains in solid condition.The papier-mâché box has fine crazing to the painted design, but is in otherwise good condition.
Two treen shoe snuff boxes to include: a 19th century example depicting a lady’s shoe, with sliding top cover, and inlaid pin stud decoration, the piece is incised with a date of 1 June 1600 to the underside, but the date is likely to be mid 19th century and a late 18th century snuff box, in the form of a lady’s shoe, with inlaid metal strap decoration, and a lady and gent figure to the push on lid (the figures appear to be wearing 18th century costume) (2) The 19th century example measures 14.5cm in length.The 18th century example measures 11.5cm in length.Condition: generally good on both.Fine patina to the wood on each.The larger example has a small age related crack where the lid slides on, but this does not detract.The metal (likely pewter), has darkened with age.
