Collection of six treen snuff boxes and a hunting cigar case, 13cm, (7) CONDITION REPORT: Book: generally bright with good patina, hinge good but 'covering' to hinge interior partly nibbled away. Three/four knots have been filled, two fillings have come out, small (natural?). Horn lining to inside of lid slightly bowed at both ends. Brass plate to top initialled JD. Further small signs of filler (red/brown) on top and bottom of book. Various natural flaws. Chamber pot: good condition apart from flaw mark/loss to one side EWJ to base in ink. Round with cabouchon: generally good condition, lined with tortoiseshell which is backed with gold foil, label reads ?(G) art more, Fine, good condition. Round with coin: generally fairly good, lid inserted with George III shilling 1817, some scratches, generally good patina. Base has fine crack running halfway from rim into body and another on oppostie almost the whole width. Base good, worn inside. Rectangular with tortoiseshell G R for Royal Engineers, incised top slightly bruised, scratched. Side good, crack full length from lid back right side, base slightly matt/worn, very little liner left. Hunting cigar case: overall rather worn, scratched particularly at rounded ridges, most losses of lacquer, nibbles are outwith image and more flaking nibbles to back. FOur compartments to interior, lid still quite tight. 'Knot' box, rectangular: lid, hinges slight horizontal cracks to interior cover, clean inside, lid slightly yawning at right hand side, back wood at right of hinge has horizontal crack around 8mm. Base generally good, bright, clean with one tiny loss to lacquer/patina at front around 3mm x 2mm maximum and slight scrapes at back.
Three copper and brass commemorative portrait snuff boxes and a pressed horn snuff box. (4) CONDITION REPORT: Horn box: generally good condition overall. Base, natural flaw from rim to base on one side, no crack. Interior to base slightly rough. Top, edge rim has natural flaw which may be a crack at one end (not rim end). A few tiny nibbles to bottom edge. Tiny nibbles to ridged design around the profile carving but these appear to be natural. Slightly worn very slight loss of definiition of profile.
Collection of twelve Georgian and later brass snuff boxes, some named, largest 11.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Shell oval; no obvious repair, hinge good, impressed to base AD*****ON. Rocker rectangular: hinge good, slight scratch to base, initialled J.S., no apparent repairs. Hunt rectangular: inscription slightly worn to lid, ships Gorleston Fair, Dum Fumo Viro, Jack Tar scene to base. Possible strengthening to interior hinge. Book shaped: repair to back of hinge 9spine) dated 1735. Inscribed John Scott, repair or firming up of interior to rim edges. Hole back right at top of spine, dent to spine. Rocker oval; iscrined J Ledger 1898, hinge strengthened, maybe original. Re-soldering from hinge backwards around end of box, slight scratching to base. Large oval: inscribed John Young to lid & Waterman at Faulcon 1748 to base, hinge very weak, pin replaced with wire, quiate a few repairs at back (soldered) and repair at side (intention? hole filled up) (all in middle (waist) section). Small rectangular: hinge good buyt later strengthened (?) rim edge also stengthened. Large rectangular: Different colours of brasses and metals. Inscribed Richard Steib, slight damage to part of brass on lid. ?? original, hinge good, heavy box, some scratches/marks. Rocker rectangle: inscribed Geo Bulls BATH, sailing ship, hinge good, slighrt pinhead dent on left side panel, interior joints strengthened. Barrell: very batteredm to base SAFETY BARREL FOR PATENT VESTA LIGHTS so not a snuffbox, a matchbox. Circular: inscribed to Robert Thomson Devon 1840, hinge appears ok, strengthened to interior of lid, couple of bashes on sides. Oval: inset sliver metal panel to lid inscrined G Schofield, hinge fine but strengthened, inset silver slender panel to base.
Three George III pewter snuff boxes, largest 9.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Double head box - Rather scratched, some dints, repaired split in the top right corner from hinge, seam along front is slightly splitting at the centre, shuts well, very slight gape at the front right. Top has The Wedding Day, / Three Weeks after comic double headed characters Octagonal - Rather rubbed and scratched., inscribed James Lutten, 1752, John Smith, G. Smith, 1809, hinge sound, slight nick at front interior rim, shuts well, no gape, spring mechanism works, inscribed to base John Smith 1786 Double box - Initialled D and R, hinged good, reinforced, slight bash on interior right rim of 'R' box, noticeable on outside, few scratches, dints, articularly to the protruding edge at cntre, one larger circular mark - 2mm
Napoleonic straw-work shoe, 20cm, a circular snuff box, 7cm and a case, 10.5cm. (3) CONDITION REPORT: Shoe: generally very good condition, minor nibbles to edges. Cigar case: generally very good condition, a few small bruised areas, a few very tiny losses. Box: some hairline cracking to edges, base, small losses to edge, largest 1.5mm x 4mm. Top rater dull/worn. Small loss to edge band.
18th century oval pressed horn snuff box, the cover with a portrait of Charles I, 10cm. CONDITION REPORT: Overall slightly worn condition. Interior has remnants only of lining, scratches and wear. Two or three lid fine stress cracks to rounded top edge, two natural cracks from rim to top of lid, one with a horizontal crack across side of lid running back up into lid. Top of lid, nibbles to top of 2nd ridged oval band, nibbles to inner band particularly on edge, lower left area of same bad poorly defined, surface craquelure to portrait area, flaked off area to tip of nose. Base, slight nibbles to foot rim at one side, very slight nibbles to other side, scratched/worn at base, commensurate with age.
18th century white metal mounted oval pressed horn snuff box, the lid with coat-of-arms, 10cm; together with another oval snuff box, the cover with Bacchanalian scene, 10cm; and a circular armorial horn snuff box, 7cm. (3) CONDITION REPORT: Armorial snuff box circular: appears to be in good condition, base good, lid has two tiny cracks from top just into sides around 1.5mm. tiny flat chip or scraped around 3mm on raised circle around armorial. Oval box unmounted: base has natural crack to one edge, 3.5cm fine. Rather scuffed/worn at edge of central oval panel, faces rathe worn. Oval box metal mounted: Lid sits squint, up to the left. Hinge at back slightly open at right hand side. Base has slight weare, one natural crack at edge around 2cm. Crack at back left (of hinge) running from pin around 1cm. tiny crack on other side (not from pin) around 2mm. Two small nibbles to footrim. Top rather wornm generally good, natural grain and caracks. (?) H BAKEK FECIT below motto.
Miniature tartanware 'Edinburgh Castle Forty-Second' snuff box, 3cm, together with three rectangular tartanware snuff boxes, largest 10.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Small square box: base slightly scuffed particularly at corners and some loss of tartan areas at corners and ridges. Losses at back ridge of top, nibbles to edge of picture, some losses to surface lacquer, just intruding into pictures. Quite clean interior. Small red tartan box: top very worn, major losses to tartan, edges much better, some dints, small losses particularly to corners/ridges, base scratched/worn, wear to interior. Lacquered box: lid dull, some areas of wear, particularly to red tartan, craquelure to image, some wear to edges, two carcks on right edge from rim, around half way down, bruise to bottom right front edge. Slight scratches to base, brighter condition, wear to inside. Dark tartan box: overal slightly dull, lid has slight wear, rubbed patch on right hand side, finger print area, damage to lacquer oval shaped on left hand side around 1cm x 1.1cm and another area as if something has spilt on it above from clasp. Sides rather dull, some slight scratching, bottom slightly scratched, even wear, clean inside. Possibly relacquered at some point??
An 18th/19th century Continental gilt metal mounted porcelain snuff box Of oval section, decorated with various birds and waterfowl, the hinged cover interior decorated with a tavern interior gambling scene. 9 cm wide. CONDITION REPORTS: Generally in good condition, expected wear, hairline crack, some slight surface wear, possible old repair to interior scene.

CARTIER; an early 20th century 14ct yellow gold rectangular snuff box, the engine turned hinged lid set with diamonds to the initial H beneath a crown above "II", stamped 14K, Cartier and no.14944, length 4.5cm, width 3.5cm, depth 1cm, approx 30.5g. Purportedly given to the vendor's grandfather by Stavros Yanakopulos, Greek Council in St Petersburg and again purportedly given to him by Tsar Nicholas II. CONDITION REPORT: In good condition with light surface wear.
