Collection of snuff bottles and ceramics Chinese, 19th Centurycomprising: a pair of blue and white snuff bottles decorated on one side with flowers and foliage and script to the other side, unmarked, 6cm high, a small circular box and cover, with blue and white decoration of a dog of fo to the top and four character mark to the base, 7cm across, a reverse painted glass example, unmarked, 5.5cm high and one other taller blue and white example decorated with a soldier wearing armour, unmarked, 8cm high (5) None of the snuff bottles have stoppers. One of the pair of bottles has been restored. The tallest with very small fleabite to the footrim. Glass example is damaged. The box has a small chip and hairline crack.

A rectangular silver snuff box with gilt interior, engine turned decoration with rose gold band to the lid, and ornate cast thumb piece, Edinburgh 2002, with Golden Jubilee hallmark, by Peter John Doherty, the base marked 'JJG' (J J Gallagher Ltd), 6.4cm x 4.4cm x 1.4cm, 2.73ozt, 84.8g in presentation case. A Collection of Assorted George II and Later Silver, including a George II silver cream-jug, London, 1750; a cased pair of napkin-rings; a snuff-box and other items; Together With a pair of spelter busts and a commemorative watch (one tray)The oval jewellery box marked underneath. There is some wear to the marks. There is overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as an obvious softening to the engraving. The feet bruised, the lining inside in poor condition. The oblong container decorated with foliage is a scent-bottle. The other items in used condition.

A mid-18th century aventurine glass and ormolu snuff box with an enamel cover, (211018) possibly Battersea, circa 1755, rectangular form, foliate decorated gilt mounts, the hinged cover depicts Europa and the bull being crowned by nymphs and Cupid, the inside cover shows a courting couple, the base and sides are made up of panels of aventurine glass, length 7.8cm.Provenance: A Private Collection. Purchased from Bonhams, 19 October 2001, lot 2.Bonhams wrote of this lot 'Aventurine glass is rarely seen in conjunction with enamel. A box illustrated by Watney and Charleston, Petitions for Patents, ECC Trans, vol 6, pt 2, pl 113c, has a similar brown aventurine base with re-used Battersea prints on the lid. Susan Benjamin, English Enamel Boxes (1978), p 66, illustrates a box with a similar base, the lid curiously combining marbled glass and painted enamel. The prints on the present lot are from a group almost certainly designed by James Gwin and engraved by Simon-Francois Ravenet for Janssen's enamel factory at York House, Battersea.'
