A cavalry sketch board, satinwood, boxwood and brass mounted, the top inset a compass above 'VERNER'S PATENT No 1862,' with slitted brass side bars, the reverse with inclinometer and leather wrist strap, 9.75 x 7in (24.6 x 18cm) in a leather pouch, inscribed 'H.A.R.MAY ARTISTS. R.V,' and two brass cased field compasses., with leather cases. (3)
An early 20th century brass mounted ships compass, Retailed by Negretti & Zambra, of circular form with brass fittings, patented by Ritchie, Boston, U.S.A. 31cm diameter, Provenance: The compass was a ship's spare. It comes with a trade label made out to the S.S. Davina from James Currie & Co. 18 Bernard Street, Leith on the 27th September 1922.
A Georgian Oak 'Rocking-Ship' Longcase Clock with eight day movement. The 13 inch (33 cm) painted dial with chapter ring encircling subsidiary seconds dial & calendar aperture. The arch top depicting a coastal scene with castle and housing a rocking-ship. The hood having a swan neck pediment with rosette terminals flanking a brass urn finial. The arched & glazed door inlaid with ornamental stringing and fronted by two slender fluted pillars. The cavetto moulded cornice above a cross-banded trunk door with shaped top inlaid with chequer stringing and an ebony & boxwood compass star, flanked by recessed fluted quarter columns. The moulded base having corresponding inlay and terminating on low bracket feet. 89 ins (226 cms) in height, 16½ ins (42 cms) wide, 9 ins (23 cms) deep.
George III silver pair cased fusee verge pocket watch, hallmarked London 1810, the square baluster pillar movement signed J. Moore, London, the enamel white dial with Arabic numerals within a plain outer case, 49mm; together with a steel albert, two watch keys and a brass hunter cased compass branded USCE (a.f)
