A pocket compass (AF) on a leather strap with Zeppelin/aircraft tag; 4 souvenir vanity mirrors featuring Zeppelin over landscape, Zeppelin over New York, Akron Airport and winged propeller on the backs. A good quality 1930s German made Globe by Columbus Verlag G.M.B.H. Berlin. Indicating all the major sea routes and in red lines the round trip route to the U.S.A. of the `LZ.127 Graf Zeppelin`. Diameter 34cm. Mounted on a mahogany pedestal with round base incorporating a compass. Height overall 64cm. GC for age, some age patina, illustrated on Plate 25.
Solomon Savery (printmaker) - `Aet M. Viri Clarissimi Joannis Speed...` (Portrait of the Cartographer, John Speed, seated at a Desk holding a Compass to a Chart), monochrome engraving, circa 1632, published by George Humble, sheet size approx 41cm x 27.5cm. Note: this plate was first used as a frontispiece to `Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World` but this probably comes from `Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain`.
