AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE NANTGARW MASONIC TUMBLER the tapered body gilt decorated with the square and compass symbol to the obverse and to the reverse the sun as a deity symbol, 8cms high Auctioneer's note: it is believed that only six of these tumblers were produced, one is held at The National Museum in Cardiff whilst the whereabouts of other is unknown. The tumblers were originally sold in 1821 to Mr Hopkin-Jones at 4/6 each. It is unknown for what reason they were produced.Amendment to printed catalogue: the production date would have been two years earlier than stated above. They were produced in 1819 thus in the time of William Billingsley, this is known as the receipt was signed 'Beeley' - a pseudonym that was being used by Billingsley.

An extremely rare, fine quality Edwardian cased 9ct gold opisometer or map measuring tool, combined with a compass thats doubles as a magnifying glass, the two glazed enamel dials calibrated for statute miles, kilometers and nautical miles to one side and inches to miles or versts and centimeters to kilometers on the other, complete with original silk and velvet lined Morocco red leather fitted case. Hallmarked for J C Vickery, London, 1908, measures, height 3.62in. (9.2cm.), width 1½in. (3.8cm.), depth 0.39in. ( 1cm.). weight 2.2.tr.oz. * Condition: In great condition, with no damage or repair, some very minor staining underneath the glazed covers, very clear and crisp hallmarks, case very clean.
WW2 Special Operation Executive (SOE) items, to include a usable smoking pipe with concealed spine dagger, marked PLUM B 'most probably used for puncturing tyres'; a shaving brush, 'marked Gillette large made in England' to the base, when the base section is unscrewed it opens to reveal a concealed compass and void for storage; and a rusty bolt, marked SFC 88 to the head, can be unscrewed to fit secret ducuments etc. (3) * Condition: Pipe has been smoked, otherwise items in very good condition.
WW2 Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) escape buckle compass, the belt buckle compass was used in the Pacific theatre of Operations by RAAF during WW2, this particular type was used with the cloth belt for the cotton tropical khaki tunic type jacket, the central bar of buckle has a small sliding sleeve over it, when this is moved it reveals/releases a small flat compass pointer to one side and a pivoted fulcrum to the other, the user would balance the pointer on the fulcrum to create a working compass, that always points north, these buckles had a "SECRET" classification and were designated 'Swinger type 15' to aid in the deception. * Condition: In very good condition, with no faults.
