He was primarily an engraver of maps, charts and globes who moved again in 1783 to 188 Strand. By 1791 he had entered into what appeared to be a relatively casual partnership with his brother, William; this partnership lasted until circa 1816 by which time William and John Cary had moved again to 181 Strand before finally settling in 86 St. James in 1820. The following year he was succeeded by his sons, John (II) and George Cary, who continued from the firm's 181 Strand address until 1851/2 when the business was acquired by Henry Gould.Condition Report: Each with marks, knocks, scratches, scuffs, abrasions to the surfacesThe surfaces appear to have been varnished, there are areas of where to this where the varnish has worn and peeled away in places, the printed bands also with old chips, flakes, losses and deeper scratches and gouges. Compass in worn, but undamaged condition. Bayonet with orange rust pitting to the hilt and scabbard, the blade is clean, the leather frog is cracking and needs oiling- would clean up.

WW2 Royal Navy Ships Log HMS MFV 151 D-Day Interest. A scarce grouping of items that belonged to the Coxswain Sergeant Frank Alsop of His Majesty Ship Motor Fishing Vessel 151. Comprising: Ships log covering the period 10th May, the date he took command, to the 31st December 1945. The log gives a day to day account of life onboard, crew lists etc ... Tide map of Ver-Sur-Mer Gold Area dated 26th May 1944. This being Gold Beech where the British 50th Infantry Division landed on D-Day ... Naval Chart South coast of England to Normandy, this with pencil notes made by Alsop ... Two German aerial leaflets dropped on the Allies trying to stop them fighting and turn them against Stalin ... Various ships manuals ... Hand held Sestrel marine compass in box etc. Coxswain Sergeant Frank Alsop is listed as a pre war waterman and took command of MFV 151 on the 10th May 1944. The Motor Fishing Vessel was built for use as tender, they had a crew of six, were mounted with one AA machine gun and had a speed of 9 knots. The log records during the D-Day landing the boat was at sea in the Channel off the French coast. It also confirms during July operated from the Mulberry dock.

Speedman wore his iPod necklace the morning after mistakenly killing a panda, which he believed was a fierce jungle creature. The necklace attached to the iPod consists of a string of earbuds strewn with a camouflage-painted whistle; a metal peace sign charm; a plastic, silver-color painted camera; a blue compass; and resin bones strung through the wires. The necklace was distressed by production with fake blood. It is in good overall condition with minimal wear.
