Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles late Victorian Officer’s pouch. A good scarce black patent leather example with red Morocco leather covered internal box. The face bearing large bronzed crowned White Horse of Kent on ‘Invicta’ scroll. Plain belt rings. Leather congealed. Circular hole to front of internal box perhaps to house a compass.

Comprising: Breast Badge of the Order of the British Empire (Civil Branch HM London 1930), 1914 Star, with clasp ‘2 Lieut 5/Lond R’, British War Medal, Victory Medal ‘Capt’, General Service Medal, clasp ‘Iraq’ ‘Capt G. C. Kitching’, 1935 George V Jubilee Medal, George VI Coronation Medal, Iraq Order of the Two Rivers (damage to central crown). Mounted Court style as originally worn ... Accompanied by a miniature medal group mounted as worn ... Framed photograph of Captain Kitching in uniform ... hand written letter dated 17th January 1915, sent home from France ... Officer’s marching compass (damaged A/F) Captain Geoffrey Charles Kitching, landed in France with the BEF on the 4th November 1914, he was later posted to India and was for a time attached to the 1st Bn Royal West Kent Regiment. He is confirmed on the GSM Medal Roll Iraq clasp under the Ministry of the Interior List as a A.P.O. (Assistant Political Officer) Nasiriyah. He appears to have remained in Iraq and in 1930 was awarded the OBE, for his work as a Administrative Inspector for the Ministry of the Interior. In 1932 he was posted to St Helena to serve as Government Secretary a post he held until 1940. During that time he wrote a number of books about the Islands history.

Compendium "Charles Whitwell", c. 1610 Early English timepiece, engraved "C Whitwell", brass, re-gilded, compass and hour ring (2x 12 hours) added in the 18th century (without needle and glas), lid probably recasted (without middle lid part), hinge broken at one side, not complete, case 65 mm Ø, underside engraved with: "BERNHARDUS DG SAX. IUL. CLIV. E MONT. DUX LANDGR. THURING. MARCH. MISN. COMES MARC. ETRAVENSB. DOM. RAVENS" - This sun dial presumably originates to the property of Bernhard of Saxony-Weimar! Sonnenuhr "Charles Whitwell", um 1610 Frühes englisches Zeitmeßinstrument, graviert "C Whitwell", Messing, neu vergoldet, Original-Unterteil und -Aufbau, Kompaß und Stundenteilung (2x 12 Stunden) im 18. Jh. ergänzt, ohne Nadel und Kompassglas, Deckel vermutlich Nachguß, ohne Mittelteil, Scharnier an einer Seite gebrochen, nicht komplett. Ø 65 mm. A French Louis XVI style ormolu and marble figural mantel clock garniture, circa 1900, the eight-day bell striking movement with floral garland decorated white enamel Arabic numeral dial behind brass bezel and convex glass, the case modelled with a cherub plotting with a compass on a scroll above laurel spray mount beneath dial, on stepped two colour marble base applied with a wreath and a globe, the apron inset with a repeating rosette decorated panel, on cast feet, 33cm high; the twin branch candelabra sidepieces with seated putti beneath foliate cast branches, on conforming gilt mounted marble bases, each approx. 29cm high

Family provenance gives it as fitted to a Spitfire with 100 % markings for open or shut
