A VICTORIAN CIRCULAR BREAKFAST TABLE, on a turned and carved column with four downswept legs with leaf carved decoration and scroll feet and recessed castors, all over later painted in cream and grey, the top with a central compass point motif surrounded by the signs of the Zodiac, 28.5" high by 48" dia. Provenance: A gentleman's residence in Kensington, London W8.
Royal Air Force pilot's log book and related items for E.F. Steventon, the log is written in a Canadian log due to the wartime shortage of RAF books and details April - September 1945 listing the pilots training and postings in the States with Gypsy Moth, Ranger, and 600 Wasp. Lot also includes three photograph albums one dated 1945, two showing New York and America circa 1945 as well as Steventon and friends, also several loose photos , eleven period aviation instructional books, a tin, compass and a 30 Cal ammunition tin.
A gentleman's 9ct gold cased, keyless wind, half hunting cased pocket watch, the jeweled lever movement detailed Buren, 9ct gold inner case, the enameled dial with black Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and with blued steel hands, Birmingham 1926, a gentleman's silver cased, key wind, openfaced pocket watch, Chester 1901, with a key and a base metal cased compass.
Pocket magnetic sundial in treen case (perhaps coromandel), the printed card dial (diameter 3.9cm) on a gimbal balance with brass gnomon and marked with the hours in Roman numerals, sixteen points of the compass and the outer ring graduated in degrees, the interior of the screw down lid pasted with paper gores showing the equation of time and instruction 'Fast means that the clock should be faster than the Dial. A good late 17th/early 18th century Augsburg pocket gilt-brass and silver pocket sun and moon dial compass/sundial by Johan Martin in Augsburg 48 (Johannes Martins 1642-1721) of octagonal form with hinged plump bob support, centred with a compass basin, the silver hour plate with outer scale IIII - XII - VIII engraved 'Horizontale Solis & Lunare', signed to the reverse and with the latitudes of sixteen cities, on three silver feet, 6.5 x 6.3 cm - in original chamois lined leather case.
