Great War Royal Naval Air Service / Royal Air Force Observers Medal & Log Book Grouping, consisting of British War and Victory medals “LIEUT F.L. MORRISON R.A.F.”, in card boxes of issue. This lot also includes numerous items of insignia, his original flying goggles and wrist compass. Selection of original documents including a Duty Ration Book, Signal card book with handwritten notes and his RNAS Pilots Flying Log Book inscribed FL MORRISON SUB LIEUT RNVR on the front cover and covering the period from 16th October 1916 to his last flight on 14th October 1918. Frank Leslie Morrison was born in Brighton on the 24th August 1892. Enlisting into the RNAS in August 1915 his service number was F7491 and his occupation was that of a Draughtsman. In October 1916 was granted a Commission as a Sub-Lieutenant in the RNVR for meteorological duties with this terminating in April 1917 when following his training he was appointed an Observer Sub-Lieutenant. Serving in Greenwich, Eastchurch, Vindex, East Fortune and Orotava he then transferred to the RAF with service in 278 and 206 Sqns before being transferred to the unemployed list on 24th March 1919. Medal entitlement confirmed as BWM and VM only. He was married in April 1922 and by 1939 he was living with his wife Alice in Woking with his occupation shown as a Public Works Contractor, he was also a volunteer A.R.P. warden. Frank Leslie Morrison died in Woking in July 1977.
Rare WW2 Kenya Independent Squadron Cap Badge, cast blackened brass with two integral lugs to the reverse. A compass pointing to the " K.I.S. " title scroll to the centre of a wreath of laurel above tri-part angular scrolls bearing the motto. To the top of the wreath is a small letter " D" in recognition of the Units founder Major J.J.Drought. It is believed less than 100 of these badges were produced for this Special Forces unit.

Generally all in good condition.

A late 18th century surveying level and compass by W & S Jones, London: constructed in lacquered brass with 20 inch rack and pinion adjust telescope over spirit bubble on a 'Y' shaped frame, with 3 1/2 inch silvered compass signed as per title, raised on a baluster tripod mount, in a fitted wooden case stamped with retailer's mark for 'B R Force & Son , Exeter'.
A Victorian brass binnacle from the Barnstaple Ketch 'Emma Louise': fitted 3 inch dry card compass by H Hughes, London, the interior of the binnacle case inscribed 'Emma Louise, 1880' , with large oval observation window and double lamp holders with later turned wooden covers, raised on a teak wooden stand, 109cm high, together with an octagonal walnut veneered bulkhead clock from the same vessel (2) *Notes- The Emma Louise was built in Barnstaple by William Westacott and was the last wooden vessel to be built by them. Her first owners were Francis Drake and Samuel Berry. A reference is made to the ship in 'Somerset Harbours' Farr, G , 1954 pages 150-151 in which he relates a conversation with Captain Philip Rale of the Emma Louise regarding her condition. Later on in 1954 the Emma Louise was taken from Minehead to Appledore and broken up.
A square brass binnacle from the motor fishing vessel 'Jose' of Penzance: the 4 inch liquid filled compass in a gimballed mount with a square case with lift up glazed windows and rectangular lamp box to one side, 32 x 25 x 20cm, with attached brown label inscribed ' This brass binnacle and compass was on the motor fishing vessel 'Jose' from Penzance. The vessel was in service at the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940 and then used as a fire float on the Thames in London for the duration of the war'
