Gold cased miniature compass, by family repute, this was given to Grover Cleveland on becoming President, to help him find his way around the White HouseProvenance; Collection of US President Grover Cleveland (1837-1908) (in office 1885-9 and 1893-7) and his descendants. He was the only President to serve two non-consecutive terms of office. Including some of his wife's jewellery (Frances Folsom), and silver. Acquired from two of the President's grand-daughters, Marion Frances (Daniel) nee Bosanquet, (1919-2016) and her sister Philippa Ruth (Foot) nee Bosanquet, by bequest and gift. Their mother Esther was the only child born at The White House to a serving American President.
