An incredible original WWII Second World War believed MI9 issued special ' escape ' swinger compass hidden within a tin of ' Wintergreen Ointment ' from Carters of Sheffield. The tin of Ointment appearing to have been unused - the outline of a secreted compass point can just be seen in the surface of the ointment (the compass actually WITHIN the ointment). Never used. Rare and unusual piece of history.
An incredible original WWII Second World War MI9 issued special ' escape ' compass uniform button. Rarer balance type. The button could be unsewn and the two sections unite to form a balance compass. As issued to allied airmen should they be shot down and find themselves in enemy territory. The compass noted by means of three painted dots. Housed within a vintage tin. A rare piece of kit.
