A pencilled note inside the front wrapper states that 854 copies of the work were printed. The second item is a description of the construction and use of Maissiat's improved theodolite and other surveying instruments, with a short history of the mariner's compass. A copy in the Smithsonian is dated 1817 but is apparently otherwise identical.
