A mixed lot of 19th century and later ceramics, to include Staffordshire figure of a bird, raised on naturalistic form support, height 24cm, transfer printed circular plate, decorated with a four masted sailing vessel, impressed factory marks to base, diameter 23cm, cylindrical tankard, with rope twist handle, decorated with an American three masted ship to one side and the mariner`s compass to the other, height 13cm, Prattware mug, decorated in the Horse Drawing Boat to Land and Halt Near Ruins pattern, height 9cm etc

C: Circular shaped case signed Officine Panerai Firenze Brevettato with issue markings MOD GPF 4/55 , case diameter approx 69mm. S: Brown leather strap. D: Original black gloss compass disk looks to be in very good condition, outer domed plastic cover shows scratches to its surface. M: Working at present. A boxed Pocket `Air Ministry issue`` keyless wind Stop Watch having sweep 60 second hand, the face with Arabic numerals at 5 second intervals and inset 30 minute count dial, the dial perimeter marked with the 360 degrees of the compass in Arabic numerals at 30 degrees intervals, engraved to rear A.M. 63/221, 5539/43. 50 mm. diameter. No running.

A FINE ENGLISH LACQUERED BRASS PATENT PRISMATIC COMPASS BY CHARLES AUGUSTUS SCHMALCALDER with hinged wire and prismatic sights, the green printed compass card inscribed Schmalcalder`s PATENT No 82[corrected in ink to 399] Strand LONDON, the underside of the cover and base both engraved 909 B, 7.5cm diam The prismatic compass was invented and patented (No 3435) in 1812 by Schmalcalder. He traded from 82 Strand until 1826 and 399 Strand from 1827-1840, therefore the present instrument dates from c1827. Another example is illustrated Turner (Gerald L`E), Nineteenth-Century Scientific Instruments, 1983, col plt XXII. ++In fine condition retaining much of the original lacquer and an old worn leather case
