Printed and given out at Amsterdam by Nicolas Visscher upon the Dam at the signe of the Fisher, with priviledge of ye states generalls and are to be sould at London by John Overton at the White Horse without Newgate, circa 1694, large engraved map with contemporary hand colouring, ornate cartouche and alphabetical table of cities and towns to the vertical margins, old folds, frayed with slight loss to central fold (in Dorset), slight creasing, backed with archival tissue, 580 x 770 mm R. W. Shirely. Printed Maps of the British Isles, 1650 - 1750. Visscher 2. state. 4. (1)

The Noblemen and Gentlemen of the County of Wicklow, This Map of said County, taken from actual surveys is dedicated by their most humble servant..., published Wm. Allen, Dublin, circa 1790, engraved map by John McKinley Taylor, sectionalised and laid on linen, contemporary hand colouring, compass rose and table of references, some dust and finger soiling, a few small abraided holes to linen along old folds, bookplates of P. & A. Shaw to outer covers, 900 x 705 mm Uncommon. (1)
New Forest. Faden (William), A Plan of His Majesty's Forest, called The New Forest in the county of Southampton, laid down from surveys taken by Thos. Richardson, Wm. King and Abm. and Wm. Driver, by order of the Commissioners of the Land Revenue appointed by an Act of Parliament passed in the 26th year of King George, 1789, a large scale map on ten engraved sheets, nine with bright contemporary hand colouring, incorporating a large uncoloured decorative cartouche, an index map, a list of the officers and wardens of the New Forest, a list of the Bailwicks and Walks in the forest, compass rose and table of explanation, large margins, very slight staining, each sheet approximately 575 x 580 mm, retaining contemporary endpapers, modern half calf gilt on marbled boards, slim upright folio A rare map of the New Forest whose accuracy ensured that it was in continual use in several editions up until the late 19th century. We can find only one other copy of this, the first edition, appearing in auction in the last twenty years. (1)

Van Keulen (Johannes), Pas-caert van de Zee-cussen van Engeland van Orfordness tot aen Flamborger Hoost, published Amsterdam, circa 1690, engraved sea chart orientated to the east, contemporary hand colouring, compass rose and numerous rhumb lines, slight staining to margins not affecting image, 515 x 585 mm The chart shows the east coast of England from Orford Ness up to Flamborough Head. WW2 “Per Ardua Libertas” Important Original MI9 Book of Gadgets for the Special Operations Executive SOE / Escape & Evasion. A rare and important original 1942 printed edition of “Per Ardua Libertas” (Liberty Through Adversity. ) produced by British Intelligence Section MI9, showing concealed gadgets produced at the time to aid SOE agents and British prisoners of War. The book one of only 100 thought to have been printed, contains, examples of silk escape maps, illustration of various ways to conceal compass, maps, saw blades in a variety of civilian and military common items. The book with original Moroccan leather cover with gilt tooling. Minor age wear. This book was printed by MI9 for a visit to the department by US intelligence officers who wanted to share and use the ideas of MI9. Classified as “Most Secret” it is believed that only 100 of these books was printed

WW2 RAF / SOE Comb Developed by MI9 A very rare example of a black Bakelite comb, which will contain a swinger compass or saw blade. Length 5 inch. This aid appears in the MI9 Secret 1942 publication “Per Ardua Libertas”. A similar comb is held in the collection of Camp X Museum of Canada and was carried by SOE Agent Andy Daniels.
WW2 RAF / SOE Agent Issue Escape Cigarette Lighter. A rare example of the official MI9 issue cigarette lighter issued to RAF aircrew and SOE Agents. Black metal body, which conceals an escape compass to the base. Overall GC but with some scratch marks. It is interesting to note this example fitted with an early issue escape compass.
