A fabulous collection of 90 planes by IOHN GREEN (1768-1808) in little used original condition undoubtedly purchased together and bear the stamp of J.ADIN, the collection includes 24 H & R's inc. 7 pairs from a set of 36, a centre bead, 3 boxed double reeds, 2 boxed cluster reeds, 6 beads, 5 ogees, 4 ovolos, pairs of side beads and snipe bills, 2 rebates, a mitre plane with an adjustable boxwood mouth, badger, compass, smoother, 7 Grecian ovolos, 7 quirk ogees, 5 quirked ogee and beads and 3 astragal and cove moulders, all contained in a large cabinetmaker's pine chest measuring 43" x 29" x 27" with two sliding banks of 12 drawers, the tops and fronts veneered in mahogany with central flush brass pulls, all over a tool well divided into 3 compartments, the centre one with fitted saw rack. Inside the front is a counterbalanced sliding case for squares with a flush pull. The lid is veneered in mahogany with a brass plate inscribed "Presented by The Great Nieces of JOHN ADNEY of Derby1788-1867" The chest still needs some attention as it did when this collection was sold by us in our catalogue No 21, the tools are in wonderful condition, just one wedge missing G++

General Sir Richard Nugent O'Connor DSO signed Escape for Libya RAF Escaping Society cover. He fought in both War. He was the field commander for Operation Compass, in which his forces destroyed a much larger Italian army. In 1944 he commanded VIII Corps in the Battle of Normandy and later during Operation Market Garden. In 1945 he was General Officer in Command of the Eastern Command in India and then, in the closing days of British rule in the subcontinent, he headed Northern Command. He was also mentioned in dispatches nine times for actions in the First World War, once in Palestine in 1939 and three times in the Second World War. Good Condition.
