A good Edward VII 1897 pattern infantry officers’ sword of The Northumberland Fusiliers straight blade 32½”, with owner’s initials “ABG” at forte, etched with crown, Royal Arms and wreath, on both sides, in scrolled foliate panels, regulation plated hilt incorporating crowned Edward VII monogram and with correct applied badge of The Northumberland Fusiliers, stepped pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, with leather knot in its plated scabbard with 2 rings, and alternative leather field service scabbard. Very Good Condition, a crisp example; together with a dark green cotton flag painted “Nbn. Div. Cyclist Coy”(Northumberland Division) 17” x 25” (front edge torn); Sam Browne belt with cross strap; a private compass marked “A B Gracie” in its leather case with carrying strap, and (most unusually) with its original printed instructions for use; a chocolate tin “The Gift of the Colonies”; miniature WWI group of three medals with MID oak leaf; sundry buttons and rank insignia, etc; cap badges 14th/20th H, WM Artists Rifles and Sudanese Defence Force (slide missing); and an interesting archive of documentary and photostat material relating to Lt. Col A.B. Gracie, including his Commission d 1907, 2 MID certificates, photographic post cards of relevant war scenes, etc. Good Condition. Sword only illustrated Plate 17 Note: At the outbreak of War in 1914 Archibald Black Gracie was a Captain with the 6th Battalion The Northumberland Fusiliers. In January 1915 he was seconded to form a Cyclist Company to act as a Divisional Reserve for the 50th Northumbrian Division. The Company was a success and Capt Gracie was twice mentioned in despatches for the part he played. In 1916 the Company was enlarged to become The 5th Corps Cyclist Battalion with Gracie as its Commanding Officer.

About Extremely Fine with minor enamel loss; and Medal for the Dedication of the New Masonic Temple, Philadelphia, 1873. White Metal, 38mm. New building/Masonic compass and All-Seeing Eye. Lovely obverse allegorical scene depicting Muse and three students; five-line legend reverse with engraved name and date. Set in period bezel with double-prong reverse bar for wear. Accompanied by a Diploma in Architecture from the École Nationale Des Beaux-Arts, Paris, June 5, 1924 (edge foxing and tears); ND (ca. 1945). Silver, 50 mm. Inscribed "A Leopold Arnaud President Du Groupe Americain "En Reconnaissance". In red, plush-lined case; 1945. Silvered Bronze, 71 mm. Rev. Compass with central plaque in spray, inscribed "GROUPE/AMERICAIN/1945. L'Académie d'Architecture. Member's Medal, 1959. Gilt Bronze, 32 mm. Modernistic design depicting Muse with lamp of knowledge and pillars. Set in bezel for wear; also small Columbia School of Architecture machine-key charm. Silver and enamels. A small group of Japanese metalwork, Meiji period, comprising a plated antimony caddy, cover and inner lid decorated in relief with peony, an antimony dish cast with figures, minogame, phoenix and crayfish and inset with a compass, a similar tray decorated in relief with samurai and oni, and a rectangular box, together with a wooden pillow.
