A WWII North Africa carved wood walking cane, carved to 'Major Arthur Hugh Hoblyn Oliver, Manamolela, March 1943, 1990Coy, Bechuana' also carved with a figure and rifle, an RAF plane and other attributes below a wrythen carved terminal, 93.5cm long along with a military issue compass 'T G Co Ltd, London No B 60299, MK III' dated 1940 (as found) (2) Provenance: The property of Major Arthur Hugh Hoblyn Oliver, Pioneer Corps, who was stationed in North Africa, the cane was carved for him in North Africa. BENTIMA; a late 19th/early 20th century gold plated cased full hunter crown wind shock-proof pocket watch, the circular enamel dial set with Roman numerals and maker's name, diameter 5.3cm, suspended on a base metal curb link chain with T-bar, also with a circular "Portsmouth R.N. and R.M. Spring C.C. Race 1932 2nd Team" medallion, and a gold plated compass.
WALTHAM; a gold plated cased full hunter crown wind pocket watch, the circular enamel dial set with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial, inscribed to the inside "Presented to Sir Kngt Fred Mitchell Dist. Master 2 Dist. R.B. Chapter by the Officers and Members for Services Rendered Sept. 28th 1938",, diameter 5.1cm, suspended on gold plated double Albert chain centred with a T-bar, also with enamel decorated "Birmingham and Dist. Works Amateur Football Association" medallion with vacant reverse for finalist's names, terminating with a gold plated compass modelled as a half hunter pocket watch with hinged lid enclosing a stacking cup, marked "CT and S no.54707" to the base.
A World War I brass prismatic marching compass by Dixon & Hempenstall of Dublin, inscribed "A. F. Young 14th. Cheshires", in original leather case with initials A.F.Y. CONDITION REPORT: The 14th (Reserve ) Battalion of Cheshire Regiment formed October 1914 at Birkenhead as a Service Battalion of the Fourth New Army as part of 105th Brigade of 35th Division. In 1916 it became 59th Training Reserve Bn. Some very minor losses to oxidised finish at front, minor scuffs to leather case consistent with age and use
