The coat of arms bears the motto '“Arridet Aridum”. A translation would be? 'dryness pleases'. We could find only one copy listed on Copac which is held by the National Trust Libraries. There is also another copy in the Victoria State Library in Australia.

Tomkison Cabinet Piano No 97(c1815) A cabinet piano in a rosewood case with turned and fluted baluster supports, the front panel having a pleated silk front with a central rosette; having a 5.5 octave compass FF-c4. The fascia reading 'Thomas Tomkison, Dean Street, Soho, MAKER To His Royal Highness the Price Regent'. This instrument has been sympathetically restored and is in good playing condition. Height 1.84 metres.
Broadwood Square Piano (c1800) A square piano in a mahogany case with boxwood and ebony banding on a tray base with shelf; also with some modern simple turned legs for use for touring. Having a compass of 5.5 octaves FF-c4. The fascia including the inscription 'John Broadwood and Sons, Gt Pulteney Street, London, 1800, Golden Square'. Restored with new strings in the Stanhope Workshops and is in good playing condition. The instrument was used by the Stanhope Players on their Concert Tour in Nyons in 2006.
Bates & Co Square Piano (c1793) A square piano in a mahogany case with boxwood and ebony stringing on a trestle base. The fascia reading 'Bates and Co, Londini, Fecit, Corner of Edward Street Wardour Street 1793', having a 5-octave compass FF-f3. Single action, wooden overdampers, one stop lever operating the damperlift. This instrument was restored by Jean Maurer and is in good playing condition.
Elwerkemper Grand Piano (c1820) A Viennese grand piano in a mahogany and walnut case on three turned supports, having a 6 octave compass from FF-f4. Five pedals, including bassoon, moderator, damperlift, bells and janissary effects. This instrument was restored by Jean Maurer and is in good playing condition.
An engraved glass ale flute, c.1825, engraved with a view of Sunderland Bridge and its dimensions, with a diamond point engraved cypher to the reverse, 16.2cm high,together with a rummer,c.1800, engraved ‘do all things without murmurings and disputings’, with two cyphers to the reverse, raised on a lemon-squeezer foot, 14cm high, a similar example,engraved with a cypher ‘WHL’, possibly for William Leader, a ship captain of Wisbech, 12.9cm high, andanother rummer,with a bucket form bowl, engraved with a Masonic square and compass, 11.5cm high (4) Provenance: The Peter and Pat Crofts Collection.Condition report: Nibbles to the lemon squeezer feet. General surface wear.
Local interest: A J T Woodhouse & Jeffcock surveyor's compass, engraved JT Woodhouse, Overseal, Ashby de la Zouch, in wooden case with Woodhouse & Jeffcock label.John Thomas Woodhouse was born in Overseal in 1809. He became a well-respected mining engineer and, later, Royal Commissioner, working for and advising a large number of colleries and coal-mine ownrers. He entered into a partnership with Mr Parkin Jeffcock in 1856, and was a Fellow of the Geological Society, as well as a member of both the Institute of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

Luís, D. Henrique and D. Duarte, who were his disciples. According to Henrique Leitão, “De arte atque rationi navigandi”, published here for the first time, it is considered “the author's most important book and, therefore, the most important book of Portuguese Science”. Joint edition of four important scientific texts, the first two with consecutive pagination and a single common title page. The two remaining texts with independent title pages and pagination, show the particularity that the dates of the foot press were manually amended, at the time, from 1571 to 1573. Both have the indication on the face of “Secunda editio”. Copy missing the 6th preliminary leaf that should contain the errata and, on the verso, a representation of the compass rose; with slight browning and occasional slight tide stains. Face of the second part (De erratis...) slightly shorter. Circular stamp (±25 mm) erased on the three title pages, resulting in slight abrasion; minor restoration on the last sheet. Interesting ownership manuscript on title page, signed by Caspar Hersbach Agrippinas (Cologne printer and publisher), dated 1619. Recent binding, full canvas in shades of parchment. Anselmo, 861.
