Zeppelin altimeter believed to be from the wreck of the L-34 (LZ 78). A rare Imperial German Great war period altimeter. The circular instrument is painted black, and the dial has a dark face with clear white markings registering 0 to 8,000 meters. The cellulose has yellowed with age, giving a tinted appearance to the dial. The dial is signed D.R.P. Hohenmesser ausgegichen. No. 7152. The metal case retains a paper inspection chart at the top. The instrument would have originally been fitted in the control car, by three bungees, two of these remain. A screw knob, rotates the face into the correct position. GC Minor age See Plate 23 Note: This item was bought at Auction in 1999 and it is believed that this compass was retrieved from the wreck of L34 which was shot down by Lt I Pyott, near Hartlepool.
