A WWII period Air Ministry Type PII compass, Ref No 6A/ 726, in its wooden box, GC (some damage to box); a WWII steel helmet, black and white “FAP” stencil; a WWI French 75mm shell case, AF; another brass shell case; a 68mm rocket for Type 155 Launcher, dated “5/76”; and 24 modern British army identification cloth patches. Zeppelin altimeter believed to be from the wreck of the L-34 (LZ 78). A rare Imperial German Great war period altimeter. The circular instrument is painted black, and the dial has a dark face with clear white markings registering 0 to 8,000 meters. The cellulose has yellowed with age, giving a tinted appearance to the dial. The dial is signed D.R.P. Hohenmesser ausgegichen. No. 7152. The metal case retains a paper inspection chart at the top. The instrument would have originally been fitted in the control car, by three bungees, two of these remain. A screw knob, rotates the face into the correct position. GC Minor age See Plate 23 Note: This item was bought at Auction in 1999 and it is believed that this compass was retrieved from the wreck of L34 which was shot down by Lt I Pyott, near Hartlepool.
Eagle Pencil Company “Famous Flights” Pencil Case c1928: Cardboard pencil case with flap and popper closure, dark green with Gold print design depicting 11 Famous Flights up to 1928. Including R34 double crossing of the Atlantic (1919), Norge crossing of the North Pole (1926) and Graf Zeppelin as the first transatlantic airliner. Several heavier than Air feats are also commemorated (but not Alcock and Brown’s first non-stop Atlantic Crossing) Contents include a wooden 10” ruler, an unmarked pencil, and a Compass/Divider with screw adjustment and reversible pencil/point.
