An unusual French Empire period needlework box, fashioned from yew wood, of oval cross-section with applied cut steel decoration to ends and italicised "R" within shield and with crown above, push button clasp with elliptical mother of pearl escutcheon, the fitted interior with carved mother of pearl and yellow metal mounted needlework tools and cases to lift-out tray, (one needle case as found). Height 5.7cm x width 19cm x depth 7.3cm.
