Artist: Lilianna Garza Design: Accessibus About the artist Liliana Ortega is a PhD student in the Civil, Environmental, and Geomatic Engineering Department at UCL. Her research focuses on finding ways to motivate people to choose walking as a mean of transportation. She is developing tools to understand how people perceive public spaces and construct the image of a place. Beyond the physical infrastructure of a city, experiences, memories and senses are key in determining how people feel about a place and therefore choose where to go. Besides her research, she is interested in community engagement projects as well as the use of art to reactivate public spaces. About the design Liliana has created a design that brings together the ideas of the Accessibility Research Group from UCL - to share the work of the research group and to raise awareness about accessibility. The bus is covered with a compilation of ideas, phrases and keywords from the members' research and quotes from interviews along with phrases from the feedback obtained during the Bus Cavalcade. To make the sculpture more fun and interactive, the background of the bus is covered with blackboard paint with the windows kept free for the public to share with chalk, their ideas about accessibility and buses. Acccessibus is an ever changing sculpture which will give helpful feedback on people’s views on these topics.
