Egyptian Shabti for Pa-di-Ast26th Dynasty.Born of Ast-itjet (mother). No profession given, but perhaps associated with cult of Isis.Large mould-made mummiform shabti figure- probably an overseer figure- with finely executed features: modelled face with tapering plaited beard, wears tripartite wig, hands crossed on chest R hand over L holding tools: mattock and, hoe, with square bag with cross-fill of basket suspended over shoulder on a cord. Vertical text enclosed in border incised on front legs. Back pillar, rectangular plinth. vertical text enclosed in border: shD wsjr, pA-di-Ast, ms n Ast-iT ‘Illuminating the Osiris, Pa-di-Ast ['the gift of Isis'], born of Ast-Itj ['Isis comes']. Hooked feet. Egyptian Clay Oveseer Shabti for Pa-em-Penedj21st - 22nd Dynasty.A small pottery mould-made overseer shabti with modelled features, including white/cream body slip and black painted details:Tripartite wig with fillet in black, eyes/brows, tools, vertical inscription added in black; l arm beside body, r arm across chest holds long whip added in black. A 19th century tortoiseshell and ivory necessaire, enclosing various tools including a silver and mother of pearl knife (some of the tools not original), 19cm long, with a smaller mother of pearl, tortoiseshell and ivory box, 10.5cm long (at fault) (2) CONDITION REPORT: Some of the tools to the larger box are not original and the contents is not complete. Some tarnishing to the metal tools inside. General surface wear to the exterior of the box. There is a label to the underside of the box. The smaller box is lacking a hinge and four sections of the mother of pearl. PLEASE NOTE: Trevanion & Dean does not ship items containing ivory or tortoiseshell outside the EU.The government have proposed legislation to create a UK law to ban the sale of all ivory which sources suggest will come into effect in June 2019. Please note this means that this lot is legal to sell now but may not be in the future.
