A well fitted coromandel wood and mother of pearl sewing box by T. Forgie, circa 1850, of rectangular form, the lid and front with three canted and stepped bandings highlighted in mother of pearl with a shield shaped mother of pearl escutcheon and lid tablet. The lid interior with ruched oval silk panel in pink silk border over a compartmentalised and lidded tray in silver paper and pink silk. The fittings comprising a set of six mother of pearl top reels, matching waxer and tape measure, the complete printed tape re-enforced, two silver thimbles, a set of six mother of pearl thread winders and a tool card with steel scissors and four mother of pearl handled tools, 29.7 x 23 x 15cms. The lid compartment with an oval black on yellow label 'T. Forgie Desk and Dressing Case Maker,  Jeweller, Cutler etc., 93, Buchanan St., Glasgow, British and Foreign Fancy Goods'.

The interior with a fancy paper lidded and compartmentalised tray with a set of six mother of pearl top reels with brass stems and pearl bases, and a tool card with five mother of pearl handled tools, 22.6 x 16.5 x 9cms.

A French sewing etui for a child, circa 1850, the circular alabaster base mounted with a brass tripod form base and curved arm supporting a purple ceramic sphere painted with trailing flowers and with gilt decorative mounts. An exceptional late 18th Century French gold and enamel scissor etui and thimble in fitted leather case, the scissor case of triangular tapering form with blue enamel ground one side decorated with a flowering vase in white and gold over a gold flower spray, the other with white ground panels united by flowers and leaves with a black painted panel of tree and birds over an oval panel inscribed 'Uni a Toi', and a tapering panel of gold flowers. The tools comprising a pair of steel bladed gold mounted scissors, with ball mounted pierced arms below oval loops, a gold bodkin with 'T' shaped slot and a gold bodkin / earspoon with engraved decoration and faceted bowl. Mounted in a fitted case with a gold thimble, the case lined in cream silk and velvet edged in gold foil, the exterior in red leather with brass swivel catch, the scissor etui, 14cms, the case 20.5cms.
