A Delightful 18th Century Treen Carpenter's Candlebox, blind fret carved with the tools of the trade; saws, chisel, set squares & mallet, and dated 1728. The sloped lid on wooden pivots ornamented with a pair of winged angels holding between them a swagged floral garland and crowned cartouche inscribed G.I. above two birds and Ano 1728. The piece constructed from boarded oak and retaining traces of residual polychrome, 8¾ ins (22 cms) high, 9½ ins (24 cms) wide, 5½ ins (14 cms) deep.
