Two Framed and Glazed Folding Hand Fans, comprising a mid-18th century example with ivory monture, the upper guard with delicate carving and painted detail, featuring insects and flowers, the silk leaf painted with a central romantic courtship scene, two side vignettes showing another couple gazing at each other from afar. The reserves are further painted with flowers and insects complementing those painted on the gorge sticks, and tiny gold sequins are embroidered as borders, and a second, 19th century mother-o-pearl fan, the leaf of cream silk, painted centrally with a scene of two fashionable ladies in 18th century gowns, one holding a fan, the reserves with delicate flower painting. The slightly pink mother-of-pearl monture is elaborately gilded and silvered, with classical ovals decorated with garden tools, pairs of birds, and floral swags. Well framed and glazed, one frame fam shaped, the 18th c example in good order but likely to be split on the folds. The 19th c fan has a repair at the shoulder on each guard. Ready to rehang.
