A beautifully carved ceremonial paddle from the Austral Islands, ca. early 1800's. This lavishly decorated paddle is 44" long and is covered with intricate geometric designs that were carved with shark's teeth, shell and stone tools. Some ancient wear, but this rare artifact displays beautifully. (PNG130)

The car was registered in May 2001 and has had just one previous registered keeper recorded from new. 39,560 miles are showing on the odometer and the MoT is valid until March 2023. The Rover seems to have been well-looked after, with even the original spare tyre and tools unused. The history folder includes the current V5C as well as a past one. There's some new car correspondence, including the original purchase invoice (for £11,513), and the original book pack with owner's handbook and supplements, plus radio instructions. There is no service book, however. A Rover 45 brochure and specifications booklet is also in the file, as are MoT certificates from 2004 and the current one from March 2022. Friedrich Mauthe, Schwenningen, Germany, a late 19th century Vienna style walnut wall clock, brass dial, ivorine chapter ring, the signed movement numbered 22203 and 34/16, striking on a gong, architectural case, pendulum, key, 79cm.Friedrich Mauthe (1822-1884). Started out as a supplier for watchmakers' tools. In 1860 he founded his own company, in 1876 his sons Christiaan and Jacob joined the company. Established in 1886 a factory for clock springs, and in 1899 founded the factory for clock cases. By 1900 there were 1000 workers.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Geneva, Octagonal, rifled, browned, 11 mm cal barrels (bores needs cleaning, visible rifling), signed 'H. JAQUET A GENEVE' in gold, the base with number '1' and '2' in gold between floral engravings, precision front sight, mark of the Liege test bench on one side; finely engraved tangs with adjustable rear sight; forward spring locks with very fine floral engravings. Three-quarter wooden stocks carved with floral motifs, grooved butts. Iron mounts decorated en suite, trigger guards with finger support, set trigger. In their large wooden case with brass mounts, lined with velvet, complete with many tools including the key. See 'Der Neue Stöckel', vol. I, page 587. Henri Jaquet is documented in Geneve from 1830 to 1880. length 41.5 cm.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Belgium, Rifled, two-stage, 12 mm cal barrels. The first stage octagonal and decorated with fullers at the corners alternating with twisted decorations and engraved floral motifs on the first part of the fullers and at the girdle. The second stage with eight sides of minor width and staggered towards base, the corners with fullers. The nozzle in line with the base, featuring floral decorations and front sight. A barrel with the marks of the Liège test bench. Breech with engraved leaves and numbers '1' and '2' in gold. The tangs engraved en suite, provided with fixed rear sight and numbered as the breeches. Forward spring locks richly engraved with flowers and rocaille. Working mechanisms, one with two snaps, one with single snap. Wooden half stocks (one with a very small missing part at the fore-end cap, near the barrel, the other with the same small cracks) featuring various rocaille and flower carvings, handles also with a checkered segment at the center. Iron mounts engraved en suite. Trigger guards with finger support, the triggers with adjustment screw. In their wooden case (small damages). With mustard-colored velvet lining (signs of use and age). It also includes the flask, probably replaced, and all the other tools such as the hammer, the ramrod, the bullet mold and others. length 39,5 cm.
dating: mid-17th Century provenance: Holland, Heavy, bronze barrel (60.5 cm long) with rings and moulded muzzle decorated with bands of flowers in bas-relief, the one at the center with mask, cylindrical trunnions, dolphin-shaped handles, the base with family crest with three stars, arm with stick and tower, upper vent, acorn-shaped cascabel knot. Fine wooden carriage with iron mounts, hooks for the tools on one side. Two closing pins of the trunnions are missing (but still featuring the chains). Very rare. length total 97 cm.
