A JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD CARVED & STAINED IVORY OKIMONO OF A WOOD CUTTER - BY SHUGETSU, the okimono carved upon a stump base with his axe in his hands, gourd to his side and tools upon his back, the artist has signed the base that reads "Shugetsu", presented in its original tomobako, 22.2cm high.

A Chinese blue and white Kangxi (1662-1722) vase, of inverted baluster form decorated with scholars either looking at scrolls, paintings, playing the Qin on a table with censor and incense tools of playing Go, all above numerous boys in leisurely pursuit to include drumming, a lion parade, blind mans buff and flying kites, the neck with Buddhist symbols, with double under glazed blue circles to the underside, with later hand carved and pierced wood cover. Height excluding cover 34 cm, including cover 44 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The later wooden lid is in good order with no issues. The vase itself has no damage, repairs or restoration. We can see no evidence of any hairline cracks to the body. The top rim is in good order. The base rim has minor scuffs and nibbles to the sharp glazed edge. These are all old marks and there are no significant chips at this point.
