A pair of 'Gibeon' meteorite piece, with a paper card reading: 'Gibeon Meteorite. Type: polycrystaline, twinned, fine, octahedrite, Group IVA, iron meteorite. Locality: Namaqualand, Namibia. Origin: This specimen originate from a large mass of nickel-iron which was torn apart as it entered the earth's atmosphere. The resulting shower, containing fragments from a few grams to hundreds of kilos, ws stewn across a wide area of the Namibian Desert. For centuries, local tribes used the cosmic metal to make a variety of tools and weapons. The first specimens for analysis and study were recovered in the 1830's. The Gibeon Meteorite is famous for providing many large specimens, the largest being 650 kg'. 58 grams total, 29-32mm (1 1/4"). Found in Namaqualand, Namibia. Wooden, full stocks with lozenge checkered butts featuring a star. Burnished iron trigger guards engraved en suite. Wooden ramrods, one turn-off, iron-tipped, another ramrod horn-tipped with iron cartridge extractor. In its original wooden case with foldaway handle and two brass closing hooks, lined with green cloth, label 'W. Clark Gun Maker Holborn London' with explanation of his new patent. Horn-tipped, wooden ramrods and iron cartridge extractors. In their original wooden case with brass mounts, foldaway handle, lined with green cloth, 'Joseph Manton No. 11 Hanover Square Gun Maker to His Majesty Dues of York, Cambridge & Gloucester - Patentee for the New Detonating Guns, Self Fluming Flint Locks & Gravitating Stops.' label on the cover. Complete with all the tools, a double powder flask with leather covering, hammer with a turn-off head, compartments hemmed in wood, a key., length 39 cm.
