2008 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano F1 by Pininfarina Transmission: paddleMileage:37600The lineage of Ferrari's most elegant 599 model, launched back in 2006, is practically regal if you trace its basic design to the 1960s and a heritage of beautifully-penned, front-engined, GT cars such as the legendary 250 SWB and its sister car, the Lusso. Fast dramatic machines with impossibly long bonnets followed chronologically then by the 275GTB Daytona and, more recently, the 550 and 575M. Such theatre, such art.It is little surprise then that the owners of these dynamic and vital examples approach their custodianship with a passion that is often overwhelming but always worthwhile and vital towards to the history of the marque. This car is presented in 'as-new' condition kept, as it is, in de-humidified car storage as part of an important private collection. Supplied by the factory in metallic black paintwork, professionally paint corrected with professional detailers and never driven in the rain.Back in 2022, it was the subject of a minor incident resulting in some quarter panel damage. The car was returned to Ferrari where full repairs took place and, needless to say, this was recorded with HPI as a matter of course although since then, all repairs have been double-checked by Autolign, professional detail assessors, and signed off as original and correct.Fully serviced by Ferrari throughout its entire life with its most recent service undertaken through Ferrari's new Power15 warranty, a new extended package which applies to vehicles between the expiration of the new vehicle limited warranty and fifteen years from the original date of sale, this took place in July of 2023 and included four new P-Zero tyres fitted to 20€ OEM Monolithic alloy wheels and new Scuderia shields as well as a brand-new Ferrari radiator costing in excess of £8,000. There are seven months left to run on the MoT test certificate. Braking comes through giallo fly carbon/ceramic brakes and, in fact, it's worth noting that this example has only ever been touched by Ferrari main agents since birth. The interior includes tan carbon Daytona sports leather seats with the extended carbon/leather pack with carbon steering wheel, LED rev. counter display, a leather headliner and back parcel shelf with straps as well as original Ferrari Becker radio/Satnav. All books are included, the keys are still in their leather pouch, the jack remains unopened and the tools are still new and safely ensconced in their leather pouch. Even the air-pump and charger still remain in place. Take your place in the driver's seat of one of Ferrari's rare front-engined, V12s amongst Maranello's other great designs, one of very few to ever to roll out from under that fabled red archway. 23/10/09 STRATSTONE FERRARI5,13129/10/10 GRAYPAUL FERRARI11,02425/7/12 LANCASTER FERRARI16,5088/3/13 JOE MACARI FERRARI17,98325/3/14 STRATSTONE FERRARI19,37017/5/16 LANCASTER FERRARI27,4007/7/17 GRAYPAUL FERRARI29,16521/8/18 GRAYPAUL FERRARI29,86521/9/20 DICK LOVETT FERRARI30,50331/8/21 DICK LOVETT FERRARI35,84025/7/23HR OWEN HATFIELD37,405Recently professionally detailed including ceramic coat protection system as detailed on YouTube by Birklean Detailing.Consigned by EJ Bridger-Stille
1960 Bentley S2 Transmission: Mileage:108687The Bentley S2 Saloon and Continental models all received a shot in the arm in 1959 when introduced at London Motor Show, the Rolls-Royce/Bentley straight-six engine was replaced by an all-new aluminium V8 unit. The more muscular engine, producing approximately 200bhp, was designed primarily to deliver more torque, but it also allowed the company to deliver a product more in tune with its rivals in export markets. The 6230cc unit installed in the S2 was smoothly powerful and transformed the Bentley into a grand tourer capable of running silently at speed all day long. This handsome Bentley S2 was consigned to our classic auction in November 2023 but for personal reasons was sadly withdrawn. We are therefore delighted to now offer this striking car for sale. The S2 has rediscovered popularity in recent years with purists enjoying its combination of the masculine looks of the S1 with the V8 engine of the S3. This impressive example was purchased 31 years ago from the famous marque specialist 'The Chelsea Workshop' who have until recently maintained the car. The dealer sticker is still present in the rear window. The DVLA record for this well maintained Bentley shows only two owners in its 64 years on the road. This impressive car is offered to auction with a complete and original set of tools and toolkit including the factory supplied torch. Similar toolkits are available on the internet for £2,000! We are informed that 15 years ago this Bentley was treated to a bare metal, windows out respray to a very high standard by a specialist in Cornwall. The Pine Green paintwork is still in good order, the shut lines are excellent, and the doors close with a reassuring clunk. At this time the carpets were replaced, and the woodwork polished. Both are still in good order. The red leather interior appears to be original, and although worn, shows a tremendous patina. The chrome and brightwork is excellent. The under-bonnet area is very clean and the boot area is superb. There is also a complete set of tools including an original inspection torch. Although this fabulous Bentley hasn't seen much use recently, it has benefitted from re-commissioning and maintenance work at a cost of £4,000. This has included the fitting of new brake master cylinders, refurbished fuel pumps, new seals, new battery and a change of fluids. Unfortunately, a fire at a storage facility destroyed all the paperwork and invoices relating to this car however any prospective can see the obvious quality and genuine nature of this car.
2008 Ferrari F430 Coupé by Pininfarina Transmission: paddleMileage:25800With six back-to-back F1 titles to its name, Ferrari couldn't put a foot wrong it seemed. This also translated into their road cars with a number of them proving to be the best to have ever rolled out of the Maranello factory such as the 360 Challenge Stradale and the 575M GTC. Then, in 2004, it launched the F430 which began a line of V8, mid-engined, supercars. Nicknamed, 'the baby Enzo', It seemed to sum up the F430's appeal: strikingly modern, brutally potent and chock-full of engineering and aerodynamic knowledge gained in the white heat of the Grand Prix battle. The engine is seriously potent, kicking out 25% more torque than the 360 and taking the new car to within a whisker of 200mph. The F430 market has been pretty stable over the last year or so and demand remains strong with good quality examples with a full history from Ferrari dealers or specialist running at £80,000-£90,000 with a good Berlinetta, over £100,000. The 430 is also a pleasure to drive with nimble controls, great all-round vision and extremely effective braking. A heady combination. Part of a collection of extremely high-quality supercars, this desirable example benefits from a specialist service history right back to day one until 2020 when the official Ferrari Power15 warranty was installed as well as the Paint Protection Film (PPF) covering. In addition to a fresh main agent service, a new MoT test certificate will be included. The interior benefits from a partial carbon fibre dash as well as all books, keys, tools and torch will be included. Even the original Ferrari (unused) charger can be found. Hugely usable and a widely thought to be a modern collector's example, the F430 is one to watch and a good one should certainly form quiet investment potential. 1981 Porsche 911 SC Sport Targa Transmission: manualMileage:75918Starting in 1978, the new 3.0 litre 911 SC was the second generation basic 911 model. It was in effect a Carrera 3 (known as a 911S in the United States) detuned to provide 180 bhp. The 'SC' designation was reintroduced by Porsche for the first time since the 356 SC as distinguished from the race-engine 356 Carrera. No Carrera versions were produced and the 930 Turbo remained at the top of the range. Porsche's engineers felt that the weight of the extra luxury, safety and emissions equipment on these cars was blunting performance compared to the earlier, lighter cars with the same power output, so in non-US cars, power was increased to 185 hp for 1980, then finally to 201 hp. However, cars sold in the US market retained their lower-compression 180 hp engines throughout. This enabled them to be run on lower-octane fuel but made them less desirable, indeed SC's sold in the UK could be also specified with a desirable Sport Group Package which added stiffer suspension, the rear spoiler, front rubber lip and black Fuchs wheels. A quite incredible find, this 1981 example of the desirable Sport optioned 911 SC Targa has been with the owner and our vendor since 1985 when he purchased it from the second owner via No5 Garage in W12 London as found in the invoices and original sticker in the rear window. First registered on 12th June and finished in black on black with the important original Fuchs wheels (including spare) and iconic whale tale. When purchased in 1985 after a search for the desired colour combination and sport specification the car had covered a lofty 56,000 miles, over the next decade our vendor, working in sales in London, enjoyed the trappings of the 'yuppy' lifestyle with oversized mobile phones and big bonuses one of which when he won he decided to retrim the houndstooth trim (sadly) with an 80's retro style presented today. As years went by the racy 911 was replaced by a luxury Lexus (found next to the 911 in the barn) but the Targa remained his pride and joy, memory of his early success. As the car became the garage queen but regularly used and serviced the mileage declined and over the last decade, although regularly started, it had found itself restricted to the barn. A dry and well-ventilated location this provided an ideal storage for the car which up until the start of the winter was also covered but due to a storm this cover must have been blown off and thus the dust settled on the car. Don't be fooled, under that dust are soft rubbers, no cracks in the plastic, a car that starts and runs well and has all of the electrics functioning€¦ indeed if washed would look like any other well-preserved survivor 911 SC and at auction we have enlisted detailers to show you just how good. The last service was in late 2006 with Specialists GT One and we would advise that it would require some light recommissioning before using in anger, fan belts, new fuel and oil but the tyres are not cracked and when running gives very little indication of its sheltered last decade. Offered with an original book pack, a good history file with the original purchase invoice from No.5 Garage in 1985 and details of its more recent service coupled to Sorn notifications and ample MoT certificates. This really is a survivor even boasting the original pre-1985 silver wheel nut locks including both magnetic release tools and a car that has a great story and represents a very desirable black on black Sport specification low mileage low owner example€¦. A light recommissioning and perhaps returning the houndstooth trim would be in order but afterwards this would be a real collector's example for which viewing is highly recommended. A BLACK POTTERY AMPHORA WITH APPLIED COPPER BOSSES, LIFAN, HAN DYNASTY 漢代黑陶嵌銅泡釘雙耳壺Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. 本拍品不設底價China, 206 BC-220 AD. Elegantly potted, the lozenge-form mouth rim tapering to form two wide strap handles above the neck with a finely incised band running parallel. The ovoid body with spiral designs. Applied overall with conical copper bosses with beaded decoration.Provenance: French trade.Condition: Good condition with old wear and casting flaws, small nicks here and there, the bosses with malachite-green encrustations, some losses and scratches, all exactly as expected from an authentic piece with this age. Weight: 1,144 g Dimensions: Height 18.2 cm This type of black earthenware amphora was produced from the Warring States period and throughout the Han dynasty. The surface of the vessel has been shaped with tools and then burnished. This process of manufacture gives the jar its attractively rugged, yet carefully detailed and distinctive characteristics. The surface of the body is an amalgamation of complex curves with various convex and concave shapes. As noted by Regina Krahl in Yuegutang, A Collection of Chinese Ceramics in Berlin, 2000, page 55, amphorae of this distinct type are characteristic products of the Western Sichuan province where they were made by non-Chinese peoples. Hence, this type of vessel is known as Lifan, named after the area of Sichuan province in the far west of China, in which such jars have been found. There are obvious stylistic similarities between these Lifan vessels and objects from much earlier periods such as the Neolithic cultures of Machang (c. 3000-2000 BC) and Xindian (c. 1500-1000 BC). Similar black ware food containers with two handles have also been unearthed in Dena County, Yunan, an area that was the home of the southwestern Yi tribe during the Spring and Autumn period.Auction result comparison: Type: Closely related Auction: Galerie Zacke, Vienna, 5 March 2021, lot 138 Price: EUR 56,880 or approx. During the Qing dynasty, the depiction of official scenes on Chinese porcelain, as seen in the current lot, served multiple purposes. Primarily, it conveyed the imperial authority of the ruling dynasty. These scenes were to present an image of benevolent governance and reinforcing the perception of a harmonious empire under Qing rule, governed by just and impartial laws. Particularly during the Kangxi period, the portrayal of official scenes legitimized the Manchu-led dynasty and its connection to China's rich cultural heritage. Porcelain wares adorned with such depictions were utilized in diplomatic exchanges to assert the Qing court's power and communicate political messages. Moreover, these scenes served as educational tools and historical records, ensuring the preservation of important events and notable figures from Qing history for the benefit of future generations. Eventually, there was a major revival of these wares in the 19th century, owned in parts to the dwindling power of the Qing empire. The present lot is a fine example from this period.Expert’s note: Judging by the imagery of the formal dress shown on the figures, the present scene depicts a hearing administered over by a third-rank civil servant. These officials would have presided over issues involving nobility, as well as institution-sanctioned events. It is possible also that they would have presided over military affairs, as there appears to be a general standing to the right of the primary scene.Auction result comparison: Type: Closely related Auction: Sotheby’s London, 22 February 2022, lot 24 Price: GBP 25.200 or approx. Afghan War Rug Collection, A Collection of 5 vintage Afghan war rugs, each hand woven rug depicting Russian military equipment, guns and ordinance, each 80cm x 62cm A Brief history of the war rug (Dari: فرش جنگی, romanized: farš jangi) The tradition of war rugs in Afghanistan traces its roots back to the tumultuous decade of , persisting through subsequent military, political, and social upheavals. Following the Soviet Union's invasion, Afghan rug-makers swiftly integrated the machinery and tools of war into their designs. The labels "Baluch" and "war rug" are broad classifications coined by rug dealers, commercial galleries, collectors, critics, and commentators. What sets these rugs apart is their unique ability to articulate the experiences and perspectives of their creators regarding the circumstances and politics of war and conflict in the region. Even after the USSR's withdrawal, the same themes and motifs persistently reemerge and undergo reinterpretation. Notably, in the aftermath of 9/11, the events of that fateful day found expression in these carpets. More recently, since 2015, drones have become a prevalent subject matter in the evolving narrative of war rugs.
Verner's Patent Cavalry Sketching Board Compass, English, c.1900, the wood marked 'VERNER'S PATENT No2971' , and stamped to the rear 'Elliot Bros London' board constructed of light wood with boxwood ends, and all brass fittings with leather strap to rear, with compass and inclanometer, along with a pair of Military Achinson Binoculars dated 1917, in a leather case (2). Exploring the Legacy of Lt-Colonel William Willoughby Cole Verner: A Pioneer in Military Instrumentation Lt-Colonel William Willoughby Cole Verner (1852-1922) left an indelible mark on military history through his service and innovations. Serving on the staff in the Egyptian campaign of 1884-85 and later during the Boer War, Verner retired as a Lt-Colonel in May 1904. However, his contributions extended far beyond the battlefield. Verner's early designs centered around simple pocket compasses, with the Service Pattern models MK III to MK VII emerging between approximately 1895 and 1918. His prismatic service compasses, a development of the Schmalcalder patent design from the early 19th century, maintained their status as the standard service compass of the British Army until the outbreak of World War II. In addition to compasses, Verner crafted the innovative 'Verner's Patent' Cavalry Sketching Board, which added another dimension to his legacy. The Cavalry Sketching Board has a fascinating origin, initially invented by Colonel W. H. Richards, a military surveying instructor at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, around 1880. Verner, briefly a Professor of Topography at Sandhurst, enhanced Richards' creation, patenting his improvements in 1887 and 1891. Eventually, the board became widely known as 'Verner's.' Further refinements by W. J. Bosworth in 1897 ensured its continued use until approximately 1930. Strapped to the arm of a cavalryman on the bridle arm, the Cavalry Sketching Board featured a leather strap with a swivel joint, allowing users to twist the entire board for precise compass alignment. The board incorporated a compass for taking bearings, and the sketching process occurred on a paper roll wound around side rollers. As each sketch was completed, the paper roll could be advanced to provide more paper. The utility of the sketching board extended beyond traditional cavalry use. During World War I, pilots and observers of the Royal Flying Corps adopted the board, employing it to create sketches of enemy positions and trenches. Verner's innovative contributions to military instrumentation, combined with his prolific work as an author, military historian, and chronicler of the Rifle Brigade, solidify his place as a pioneer in the field. The enduring impact of Verner's inventions underscores their significance in the evolution of military tools and tactics.
