Legatura coeva in pelle, carta decorata ai contropiatti, illustrazione in nero al piatto anteriore e titoli in oro al piatto anteriore e al dorso, cornice a secco al piatto posteriore, tagli dorati.12° (120x80 mm). 235 pages. Printer's device on title page within frame printed in read, black and yellowe, text within white and red frame, lithographic head-pieces, tail-pieces and initials, lithographic tools on the last blank leaves. Light browning, foxing on the flyleaf and on the half-title and on the last two leaves. Contemporary calf, decorated paper on the pastedowns, black illustration on the front cover and gilt titles on the front cover and the spine, blind-tooled frame on the past cover, gilt edges.

After a chase in a rowing boat Cook was arrested, tried and sentenced to be hanged and then suspended in an iron gibbet cage, the last case of such punishment in England.
