Keith Reynolds (American, B. 1929) "Cargo Vessels" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvas Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork originally appeared on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.N. 28c Trade and Development stamp issued June 6, 1983. For thousands of years, families all over the world produced most of the things they needed themselves. They grew or hunted their own food, made their own tools and utensils, built their own homes, and made their own clothes. Later, men learned that they could have more and better goods and services by specializing and trading with others. As civilization advanced, exchanges became so common that some men ... eventually known as merchants ... did nothing but conduct trade. The most famous early land-merchants were the Babylonians and later, the Arabs. These traders carried their goods across the land on foot or rode donkeys or camels. In contrast, the Phoenicians became the chief sea-traders of ancient times ... shipping loads of cargo and goods across the briny deep. Today, sea-trade is a multi-billion dollar business, and is completely modernized. Gigantic cargo vessels ... such as those featured on this artwork ... can transport huge quantities of goods across the sea. Image Size: 15.75 x 13.75 in. Overall Size: 20 x 16 in. Unframed. (B08068)

Oak and mahogany three train longcase clock, the 14" painted arched dial signed Henry Bright, Leamington to the centre with subsidiary days of the week dial and moon phase to the arch, the substantial movement playing 7 tunes every third hour (tunes change daily), including the national Anthem and Grand Old Duke of York on a nest of twelve bells, the case with long mahogany crossbanded pointed arched door flanked by quarter fluted columns and the hood surmounted by a swan neck pediment, 87" high (pendulum and three weights)**This clock has been in the same family by descent for approximately one hundred years**This clock is signed Henry Bridge of Leamington Spa, who lived from 1817 to 1904. His family owned successful watchmakers and retail jewellers in the most fashionable part of Leamington so it is likely he either retailed this clock or perhaps had it on display there. We believed the clock is somewhat earlier as the dial was made by Walker & Finnemore of Birmingham which dates it to between 1808 and 1811 when their partnership dissolved, we believe the movement may have been made by Samuel Deacon (1746-1816) of Barton in the Beans. The AHS published a small book called The Deacon Family of Leicestershire Clockmakers and it is clear from the book that the clock has many of Samuel Deacon's features such as the bell hammers, pin strike and baluster movement pillars. Although the movement is not numbered, Deacon's very detailed records are held by Leicestershire county records office and it may be possible to trace who it was made for and what tunes it plays. Deacon's workshop and tools survive in the custody of Leicester county museum
