3rd century AD. A matched pair of gold earrings, each hook and discoid plaque with twisted petal detail to the outer edge, central cell with inset cameo mask of Venus (Aphrodite), loop below with dangle and shell(?) bead. 5.95 grams total, 32mm (1 1/4"). 1st-3rd century AD. A hand-forged iron fork with three curved tines, waisted shaft with twist to the centre, loop to the upper end. 190 grams, 54cm (21 1/4"). A mixed group of stone tools including blades, awls, cores, cobbles and scrapers, some marked with their findspots: 'Isterød', 'Langtved', 'Ågårde', 'Læsø', 'Bromsnæs', 'Gunnerød', 'Skelebjorg', 'Stasevang', 'Maglemøse Vedb[y]', 'Vellerup', 'Vedb[y]', 'Trygg Å'. 'Tostr. Norregård' and others indistinct; an oyster shell; a later fragment of ceramic tile; a piece of coal; a piece of quartz, a piece of mineralised wood. 3.1 kg total, 2.5-12.5cm (1 - 5"). 19th-20th century AD. A tiered rectangular bronze base with figure of Buddha with hands pressed together sitting cross-legged on a dais beneath a canopy of seven headed naga serpent, five similar figures below and seven more on the lower tier; discoid offering bowl to the forward edge, hollow to the underside. 3.5 kg, 26cm (10 1/4"). From the Cheuk family collection; acquired before 1990. The piece is a three dimensional representation of a mandala, representing the cosmic realm of the Buddha. Such objects are used as tools in meditation where the practitioner would contemplate each of the figures and their relevance at each tier of the Buddhist cosmos. Each Bodhisattva would represent a different level of mental perfection that the aspirant would meditate upon, with the Buddha at the top representing the purest and most perfect form to be achieved. Good condition.
9th-11th century AD. A mixed group of miniature iron tools comprising: an axehead with curved blade; a soldering iron with rectangular-section blade, loop finial; a wedge-shaped blade. 75 grams total, 8 - 12cm (3 1/4 - 4 3/4"). A bronze cosmetic tool comprising a pair of straight-edge tweezers with central concentric rings motif to each arm, sliding rivet with an attached nail-cleaner with canted spike, a miniature scoop, a nail-cleaner with chamfered edges, a cosmetic spoon with flat plaque; the tools arranged on the sliding rivet to align the central holes to secure them. 15 grams, 60mm (2 1/2"). A very well engineered 4 inch scale Durham and North Yorkshire Traction Engine, finished in black with copper bound boiler, detailed with red and yellow bands, named "Henry", nicely detailed with front and rear tail lamps, and a brass makers plaque to the cylinder casing, this engine is fitted with a simple single cylinder horizontal engine, fitted with slip eccentric, the valve gear actuated via Stephenson's Valve Gear, fitted with pole reverser to foot plate and a 2 speed engine transmission, with hand operated whistle and Ramsbottom Style Safety Valves, belt driven ball governor, with easy access to back head controls and tools, with a riding trolley/Water Trolley, fitted with rear tail lamp and removable wooden tool box, overall a very well engineered and executed traction engine
