Fiona Bradford. Jack of Spades, 'Fish Hook'. Signed verso: 'Fishhook, Oil on board, Fiona Bradford'. Oil on board. 9 x 6.5cm. Framed. Fiona Bradford: My practice is an attempt to articulate the space between what 'there is' and 'there is not'; a point of potential immanence. This is not a tactic for avoidance or resolution, but a curiosity about the transformative and mutable potential of the medium. The work is informed by ideas related to the principles of emptiness and uncertainty. Emptiness, is not seen as a 'thing' or 'state of being,' but rather a process or 'state of becoming'. In relation to painting I use uncertainty as a tool - a way to figure my practice by using 'uncertainty purposefully'. These persistent interchanges between the tools and my intentions convey an agitation- an unavoidable restlessness in the work. It also reflects my confusion about what painting should be and what I should paint. It's messy. Repeated trial and error with pigments, oils, airbrush, spray painting and collage does not preclude other modes of working such as daydreaming and deferral. Experimenting with strategies such as hesitation, delay and deceleration lead me down dubious alleyways, only to retrace my steps in concentric circles. As an artist my task as I see it is to try and apprehend these reverberations. www.fionabradford.com. As a retired S.R.N I appreciate the importance of a charity such as Transplant Links for action, research & understanding. Please note that final invoices will include buyers' premium at 27% (inclusive of VAT) added to the hammer price. Ewbank's are waiving all vendor commission for the charity. Transplant Links Community is a UK registered non-religious and non-political charity that saves the lives of children and adults in the developing world who suffer from life-threatening end stage kidney disease. Offering teaching and advice, and carrying out living kidney transplants, sharing their knowledge with local medical teams in a variety of countries - so that sustainable transplant programmes become a possibility for the future.
