Friedrich Mauthe, Schwenningen, Germany, a late 19th century Vienna style walnut wall clock, brass dial, ivorine chapter ring, the signed movement numbered 22203 and 34/16, striking on a gong, architectural case, pendulum, key, 79cm.Friedrich Mauthe (1822-1884). Started out as a supplier for watchmakers' tools. In 1860 he founded his own company, in 1876 his sons Christiaan and Jacob joined the company. Established in 1886 a factory for clock springs, and in 1899 founded the factory for clock cases. By 1900 there were 1000 workers.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Geneva, Octagonal, rifled, browned, 11 mm cal barrels (bores needs cleaning, visible rifling), signed 'H. JAQUET A GENEVE' in gold, the base with number '1' and '2' in gold between floral engravings, precision front sight, mark of the Liege test bench on one side; finely engraved tangs with adjustable rear sight; forward spring locks with very fine floral engravings. Three-quarter wooden stocks carved with floral motifs, grooved butts. Iron mounts decorated en suite, trigger guards with finger support, set trigger. In their large wooden case with brass mounts, lined with velvet, complete with many tools including the key. See 'Der Neue Stöckel', vol. I, page 587. Henri Jaquet is documented in Geneve from 1830 to 1880. length 41.5 cm.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Belgium, Rifled, two-stage, 12 mm cal barrels. The first stage octagonal and decorated with fullers at the corners alternating with twisted decorations and engraved floral motifs on the first part of the fullers and at the girdle. The second stage with eight sides of minor width and staggered towards base, the corners with fullers. The nozzle in line with the base, featuring floral decorations and front sight. A barrel with the marks of the Liège test bench. Breech with engraved leaves and numbers '1' and '2' in gold. The tangs engraved en suite, provided with fixed rear sight and numbered as the breeches. Forward spring locks richly engraved with flowers and rocaille. Working mechanisms, one with two snaps, one with single snap. Wooden half stocks (one with a very small missing part at the fore-end cap, near the barrel, the other with the same small cracks) featuring various rocaille and flower carvings, handles also with a checkered segment at the center. Iron mounts engraved en suite. Trigger guards with finger support, the triggers with adjustment screw. In their wooden case (small damages). With mustard-colored velvet lining (signs of use and age). It also includes the flask, probably replaced, and all the other tools such as the hammer, the ramrod, the bullet mold and others. length 39,5 cm.
dating: mid-17th Century provenance: Holland, Heavy, bronze barrel (60.5 cm long) with rings and moulded muzzle decorated with bands of flowers in bas-relief, the one at the center with mask, cylindrical trunnions, dolphin-shaped handles, the base with family crest with three stars, arm with stick and tower, upper vent, acorn-shaped cascabel knot. Fine wooden carriage with iron mounts, hooks for the tools on one side. Two closing pins of the trunnions are missing (but still featuring the chains). Very rare. length total 97 cm.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Papal States, Large, convex-edged, iron head, with a long beak curved downwards. The shaft of elliptical section, provided with brass caps at the two ends. The upper side also featuring two iron spring lugs. See an extremely similar axe in 'L'Esercito Pontificio, da Castelfidardo a Porta Pia 1860 - 1870' by Brandani / Crociani / Firoentino (ed. Intergest 1976, Milano): a drawing of a sapper in parade dress uniform of year 1865 carrying the same axe model (page 10). On page 38 a colored drawing showing a sapper of the Line Infantry Regiment, again in parade dress uniform, leaning on his axe, clearly visible this time, identical to ours. Finally near the drawing a photograph of 'tools and epaulets for a sapper' where the same type of axe can clearly be seen. Interesting. height 105 cm.

SOHN A SUHL', with engraved base and silver frame and number '1' and '2', front sight; long tangs engraved and provided with variable rear sight; backwards spring locks finely engraved with floral motifs and silvered at the center, provided with secure-lock. Wooden stocks with checkered butt. Iron mounts decorated en suite, the butt-plates with the monogram 'D.B.' under a Count's crown. Trigger guards with finger support, set trigger. Kept in a case of a later period complete with tools and key. On the lid a Prussian eagle. length 36 cm.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: London, Rifled, round, browned, 17 mm cal barrels (clean bores with two visible deep grooves), with rib signed 'REILLY NEW BOND STREET LONDON', the base engraved with floral motifs, three fore-ends (100, 150, 250), silver foresight, marks of the London test bench below, two other marks and serial number '5991'; large tang engraved with a deer's head among floral and geometric decorations. Forward spring locks signed 'REILLY LONDON', provided with secure-lock and engraved with very fine hunting motifs. Wooden stock with palm rest and handle. Iron mounts decorated en suite, the lower tang with serial number '991'. Solid, wooden ramrod with bronze mounts. In its original wooden case with brass mounts, lined with green cloth with Reilly's label. Containing a vast assortment of accessories such as five bullet molds and pliers, different tools and spare parts such as hammers and springs, cleaning tools and more. Together with a 1916 purchase invoice of a Florentine gunsmith for guns manufactured in British and Belgian factories. length 114.5 cm.
Collection of Quality Vintage Wooden Hand Tools, mostly comprising a variety of planes: a large number of different moulding planes; some router planes; also a few bench planes and some planes with a curved bottom surface. They were the property of Mr C. Milner (born 1912), who apprenticed as a joiner in East Yorkshire. Subsequently he switched to teaching at the local technical college. The makers include King & Peach, Hull; S. King, Hull; J. Willey, Swinegate, Leeds; & Ebor Works, York. An interesting collection.”
