A WWII Second World War era improvised British gun cleaning kit for the US made .45 Tommy Gun. The tin containing cleaning brush, cleaning gauze, pull-through, oil bottle and 4x2" cloth. Appears un-issued, and in excellent condition. The tin marked M617 to inside. Along with a set of cleaning tools inside a correct cloth bag for the SA80 rifle, also in good condition.
Binding.- Office de la Semaine Sainte, engraved pictorial title, vignette at head of dedication and 3 plates, some light foxing or spotting, pink silk endpapers, stained, handsome contemporary black armorial morocco, richly gilt, covers with wide borders incorporating a number of floral and foliage tools, flat spine in compartments with floral and foliage decorations and a red morocco label, chip to foot of spine, corners worn, rubbed, g.e., 8vo (binding 208 x 138mm.), Paris, Widow Mazieres & Garnier, 1728. sold as a binding and not subject to return.
Masonic binding.- Bible, English. The Holy Bible, some staining and spotting, attractive Dutch floral endpapers, contemporary red panelled morocco, gilt, covers with central compass and square motifs, within borders comprised of various floral and foliage tools, spine in compartments and decorated with floral and foliage and with a green morocco label (chipped with loss of 2 letters, corners worn, rubbed, g.e., 4to (binding 266 x 228mm.), Edinburgh, Alexander Kincaid, 1769.⁂ Provenance: 'This book was bought by Henry Rudd of Monkwearmouth for twelve shillings at the sale of the furniture of St. John's Lodge, 9th of Oct. 1788...and was borrowed at the request of the Rowkand Burdon Esq., M.P. for the County of Durham for the use of the Masonic procession at the Laying of the Foundation Stone of Wearmouthbridge on Tuesday 24th of Sept., 1793 at that time when they had fury of French Citisons [sic.] dictating acts of extreme Depravity disturb'd the peace of Europe'. (Lengthy ink inscription to rear end paper; ink genealogy and signatures of the Rudd family').
