An Egyptian shabti for Huy-neferNew Kingdom, 19th Dynasty, circa 1292 -1189 B.C.Huy[-nefer?] (Huy is an abbreviated form of the name ‘Amun-hotep’ (lit. ‘Amun is satisfied’)),a royal scribe of the Two Seats (i.e. the thrones of Upper and Lower Egypt): an administrative title.Modelled pale green mummiform faience figure with fine detail added in black: eyes, brows, mouth and ear details; wears striated tripartite wig with bands to the end of the lappets, a broad collar with pendant beads, and a bracelet; arms crossed on chest, holds curved tools moulded/added in black: pair of hoes and a seed-bag with cross-hatched detail/ infill across the back on a cord suspended from the left shoulder. 5 lines text: 4 horizontal bands around legs, continuing to a vertical back column, all enclosed within linear borders. Traces of firing support stilts on rear of figure at back and legs, characteristic of Dyn XIX shabtis [cf. Group of shabti for Irt-Hor-eru (lit.: ‘ the Eye of Horus is against them (=the enemies of Horus)’ )Unusual small transitionary hand modelled(?) mummiform wax worker figure: wears tripartite wig; eyes indicated by incised dots, other facial detail modelled. Wears long tripartite wig, whose rear lappet stands proud of the back, and straight beard. Hands modelled, hold incised tools: hoe and semi-circular seed bag on cord over L shoulder.Long, thin tapering body. 1 of 3 examples from this group. The figures have tapering, thin ankles of TIP bronze figures, and may therefore have been intended to be cast in wax, or originated from a casting workshop. 6.8cm.
