A FINE PAIR OF 52-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY DURS EGG, LONDON, circa 1785-90, 14 1/2in. overall, with swamped octagonal signed barrels (fore-sights and rear-sights removed) engraved with a band of bead-work at the breech, signed flat bevelled locks each with stepped tail, figured walnut full stocks each with flat-sided butt, plain iron mounts including trigger-guards each with acorn finial, horn-fore-end caps, and horn-tipped ramrods. The complete absence of decoration on these pistols hints that their original owner was a rather cold and calculating character who viewed these pistols as mere tools rather than objects of elegance and beauty.

LONDON. "PARADOX" FOSBERY PATENT', 2 1/2in. chambers, rifled chokes; extra 28in. nitro shot barrels with raised matt rib, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and full choke, fences with carved shell motifs, manual safety, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, chequered front trigger, best bold scroll engraving on a matt background, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14in. stock with sling swivels, weight 7lbs. 1oz. (paradox barrels) and 6lbs. 11oz (extra barrels), in its leather case with paradox bullet mould, fixer and various reloading tools. The maker's have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1894
