A .451" Westley Richards "Monkey Tail" breech loading percussion carbine, 41½" overall, barrel 25", number 3839, B'ham proved, the breech stamped "WHITWORTH PATENT"; the lock marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO" and "1868" in triangle; dark walnut fullstock with steel mounts, sling swivel, swivel eye in the butt, trap in the butt plate containing cleaning tools, and correct ramrod/cleaning rod. A good .450" Westley Richards "monkey tail" breech loading percussion rifle, 49" overall, barrel 33" with B'ham proofs, the breech marked "2½ Drms. Cartridges", numbered "214", and engraved in front of the rearsight "Whitworth's Patent", the monkey tail engraved "Westley Richards Patent" and "214"; the plain lock engraved "Westley Richards & Co 1860"; walnut fullstock with steel mounts, including front sling swivel and swivel eye in the butt, the butt plate trap containing cleaning tools; with correct bright steel ramrod/cleaning rod. VGWO&C, retaining all original blued finish to barrel and mounts, and colour hardened finish to the lock; in its original shaped wooden carrying case with leather carrying handle, the lid pierced to accommodate the hammer spur, with original Westley Richards printed label inside the lid, numbered 214 and describing the type of cartridge to be used in the rifle, the case containing an Enfield type combination tool.
