Greener, St. Mary's Row, Birmingham, and 40, Pall Mall, London, S.W.1, internally baise-lined and fitted, to take 30'' barrels, containing oil bottle, assorted cleaning tools (some in leather pouches), dummy cartridge, etc.Lid formerly with plaque bearing owner's name, now lacking and patched. London Luton airport adhesive label attached to lid, partly removed and showing evidence of damage to leather finish. Straps and handle intact and in good condition. Internally with some wear and staining to baise lining. Overall general light damage commensurate with age and use.

One pistol with chip to side of stock at fore end. Both pistols with heavily cleaned metal parts and stocks. Actions tight. Both holding at half and full cock.

Illustrato da tre acqueforti non incluse nella segnatura: l'antiporta, una tavola anatomica del cavallo all'inizio della seconda parte e una tavola ripiegata (legata tra le pagine 376 e 377 della seconda parte), ritraente le più frequenti afflizioni equine. Numerose illustrazioni silografiche nel testo e a piena pagina ritraenti differenti tipi di morsi, impresse nella seconda parte. Esemplare lievemente brunito, qualche fioritura. Legatura coeva in vitello agli acidi, stemma nobiliare impresso in oro ai piatti. Dorso a cinque nervi, titolo impresso in oro su tassello in marocchino, scomparti decorati da ferri dorati. Abrasioni, più evidenti alle estremità del dorso. Bella edizione dell'opera francese più importante sull'equitazione, originariamente stampata nel 1664. Questo trattato, considerato l'opera principe sulla mascalcia, fu redatto dal celebre ippiatra francese Jacques de Solleysel, scudiero del Re, autore anche del disegno della bella antiporta inclusa nel volume. 'Cet ouvrage a le premier posé les bases de l'Hippologie et de l'Hippiatrique sur des données sérieuses [...]. Piccolo fregio silografico a entrambi i frontespizi; testatine e finalini incisi su legno. 14 tavole incise nel primo volume, di cui tre ripiegate (piccolo strappo al margine inferiore bianco della tavola relativa alla pagina 844); 23 nel secondo volume, di cui tre ripiegate (strappetti al margine esterno bianco delle tavole relative alle pagine 333 e 492). Diagrammi e illustrazioni silografiche nel testo. Esemplare in buono stato di conservazione. Alcuni fascicoli leggermente bruniti. Piatti in più punti abrasi; mancanze ai labbri e agli angoli, più evidenti nel primo volume. Cerniere leggermente usurate. Mancanze alle estremità dei dorsi. Nel secondo volume qualche annotazione in tedesco, vergata a lapis da mano moderna. Ai contropiatti anteriori etichetta della Libreria Foulard (Parigi); al contropiatto anteriore del secondo volume ex libris moderno 'Chr. Winner'. Bella edizione dell'importante e fortunatissimo trattato dell'agronomo francese Louis Liger, sieur d'Auxerre (1658-1717), la cui prima edizione era apparsa a Amsterdam nel 1700. Numerose furono le ristampe che ne seguirono fino all'inizio dell'Ottocento. A entrambi i frontespizi è stampata l'indicazione del prezzo dell'edizione, 'Les deux Volumes reliés, 24 liv.'. Fine edition of the remarkable and widely popular treatise by the French agronomist Louis Liger, sieur d'Auxerre (1658-1717), first appeared in Amsterdam in 1700. As an interesting feature, the price notice of this edition of 1768 - 'Les deux Volumes reliés, 24 liv.' - is printed on both title-pages.

Frontespizio rimontato su braghetta; tracce di polvere alla carta di occhietto e al frontespizio. Restauro a porzione all'angolo superiore esterno bianco delle prime e delle ultime carte. Alcune annotazioni a matita di mano moderna; coeva l'annotazione in inchiostro bruno al margine della carta Q2r. Al recto della carta di guardia anteriore applicata etichetta cartacea con collocazione tardo ottocentesca 'A 5 (16)'.Prima edizione di questa importante opera di Parmentier (1737-1813) che tratta di ogni aspetto, agricolo e economico, della coltivazione del grano.
