dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Liege, One percussion pistol with micro-rifled, 15 mm cal. barrel, in damask, with fore-sight; box-lock type frame, engraved with floral motifs, with rear sight, foldaway trigger, wooden butt with iron mounts and ramrod. Drum. Preserved together with a pair of percussion pocket pistols and tools in a modern, wooden case. Also a pair with engraved frame and foldaway trigger. length 21.5 - 33.5 cm.
dating: 1865 provenance: Poirino, Octagonal, rifled, damascened, 11 mm cal. barrels, engraved at the base with floral motifs, precision fore-sight; engraved tangs provided with adjustable rear sight, forward spring locks, engraved with floral motifs. Wooden, three quarters stocks, embossed with floral motifs and with checkered grip, iron mounts decorated en suite, trigger-guards with finger support, triggers with set trigger. In a wooden case, covered with red cloth with all the tools and key. The cover with brass mounts, a foldaway handle in the center, with inscription 'TIRO A SEGNO DI POIRINO - Dono di S. A. R. il Duca d'Aosta 1865'. length 42 cm.

Mortimer Edimburg Late S.t James S.t London', with London test-bed stamps in the lower part, serial number '58xx'. Locks finely engraved with rinceaux, tang en suite, signed 'T.E. Mortimer George S.t'. Wooden half stock with checkered neck. Iron mounts engraved with rinceaux. In its wooden case (no handle) with Mortimer label, complete with various tools and two flasks. length 118 cm.

Forward spring locks, signed 'PURDEY' and engraved en suite, dolphin-shaped, finished cocks. Wooden stock and fore-end, partially checkered and with iron mounts, decorated en suite, a lever on the trigger-guard, for barrel's opening. Serial number '7986'. In a wooden case, lined with red cloth and provided with various tools, some with horn grip. length 118 cm.

Binding.- Gander (Joseph) The Glory of Her Sacred Majesty, Queen Anne, in the Royal Navy...also a Treatise of Navigation and Commerce: with some Remarks on the Royal Hospital at Greenwich; and Improving the Woollen Manufactory, first edition, engraved plate depicting the fleet with a medallion portrait of Queen Anne by van der Gucht (foxed and shaved at lower edge), some spotting and soiling, mostly marginal, hand-coloured engraved bookplate on front pastedown, contemporary black morocco elaborately tooled in gilt with leafy stems & flowers, small birds, rosettes and wavy lines around a central lozenge with border of rules and tools within semicircles, spine gilt in compartments and five raised bands, g.e., a little rubbed, covers slightly splayed, corners slightly worn, spine ends a little chipped with splits to joints at head and foot, 4to, for the Author, 1703.
Horn Books.- A pair of 18th century Horn Books, each with upper case alphabet (24 letters, omitting 'J' and 'U'), each carved in ivory or bone and letters coloured red, one with floral device beneath and ?later green ribbon, each 84 x 33mm., preserved in contemporary black morocco "box" made from a hollowed-out binding and elaborately tooled in gilt, original clasps, decorative endpapers, g.e., 8vo, [18th century].⁂ Fine but simple examples of these scarce educational tools for children.
Hairdressing.- Stewart (James) Plocacosmos: or The Whole Art of Hair Dressing..., first edition, lacking half-title, with engraved frontispiece printed in sanguine and 10 engraved plates, light foxing or browning, original boards, uncut, rebacked, rubbed and stained, 8vo, for the Author, 1782.⁂ Scarce work on all aspects of hair and hairdressing including growth & care and the effects of diet & lifestyle, tools, false hair, head dresses and cosmetics; the plates depict the extravagant hairstyles of the time. ESTC lists 5 locations in the UK: Birmingham Central Libraries, BL (2 copies), Edinburgh University, Bodleian, and Wellcome Institute.
