Yomut kepse gul Turkmen carpet, Turkmenistan, second half 19th century, 11ft. 1in. x 7ft. 3.38m. x 2.13m. Overall wear; small reweaves in places; small repair to lower right side field. Note the meandering vine main border and ovadan motifs down each long side which degenerates at each end into a simplified meander; each elem panel with diagonal rows of compartmented stylized ‘tuning-fork’ plant motifs in various colours, which is often to be found on Yomut carpets with the dyrnak gul design. An attractive carpet with good range of colour.
Exceptional carpet by the Ersari Turkmen of Beshir, Turkmenistan, 3rd quarter of the 19th century, 12ft. 3in. x 5ft. 10in. 3.73m. x 1.78m. Overall wear; repairs in places.
