A WOVEN CARPET, IN PATEG STYLE IN ARTS & CRAFTS TASTEApproximately 380 x 271cmCondition Report: Some minor wear overall reflecting carpets relative lack of age. Fringing is trimmed short at both ends and bear the expected minor fraying. Binding to longest edges are tidy. Carpet has colour variation and simulated 'abrash' to simulate grater age. Waterloo 1815 (1st Dragoon Guards * M * Hewitt Serjt.) naming re-engraved in upright serif capitals, fitted with replacement steel clip and ring suspension, nearly very fine £400-£500 --- Matthew Hewitt was born in the Parish of Kidderminster, Worcestershire, and enlisted there on 14 June 1804, aged 16, a carpet weaver by trade. He was discharged on 25 December 1829, in consequence of palpitations of the heart and being addicted to drink. He died at Kidderminster at the end of 1843. Sold with copied discharge papers.
